Hello,
James SURR appears with his family on the 1851 England Census at HO107/2230/619, p.11. Other than the fact he was imprisoned for 18 months between 11/10/1858 and 10/04/1860 I can find no further Census/BDM/Criminal records for him.
Can anyone help please ???

Birth reg as James Surr, Jun qtr 1844 Manchester, mmn Lyddel?
-
Thanks avm228,
It is the correct person as several Family Trees quote Elizabeth LIDDALL as his older sister's, Sarah Ann, mother. The trees make no mention of James, incidentally??
I had written to the "Tree Owners" before but no response yet.

On the 1858 criminal record, which gives his address as Mason Street, Manchester, it shows he also used the alias James LANCASTER. His mother Eliza was said to be living at 7 Spear Street.
Perhaps he adopted another alias after he left prison?

Thank you Jomot,
I reviewed the possibilities of the alias "LANCASTER" that you uncovered but, sadly, nothing fresh has emerged...........No "SURRprise" 8)
For the moment,
