Title: John Smith and Elizabeth McQueen

Looking for parents of Elizabeth McQueen born about 1827 Lochrutton and parents of her husband John Smith born about 1812 Holywood Dumfriesshire . They married in 1852

Suspect your best bet might be to obtain their death certs.which will hopefully have parents names recorded.

Doing a free search on Scotland's People for Elizabeth Smith,other surname McQueen there is a possible death in Dumfries in 1884 (age 58). Cannot thus far see an obvious death for John. (I have only located them in the 1881 census - have you found them in previous censuses as there might be clues there?).

Hi William.....have found Elizabeth n 1851 with father James but no mother and Can only find John when he is married

There is an Elisabeth McQueen age 12 with possible parents James and Agness in Glencairn Dumfries-shire 1841.

No....on the death certificate mother is Mary Copland

There is an MI at Kirkgunzeon Churchyard that reads
Mary Copland died Cairnyard 26.2.1845 aged 56 yrs.
Her husband James McQueen died Drum 22.11.1856 age 72 yrs.
Their son John,died at Drum 1.1.1852 age 32 yrs.
Their daughter Elizabeth died 22.1.1884 age 58 yrs.
Her husband John Smith  died 22.3.1885 age 74 yrs.

Its from a book of Monumental Inscriptions pre 1855 for the Stewartry of Kirkcudbrightshire.

Yes I saw that census but thought it strange that the women are listed as Copland and not McQueen

Still looking and not able to find on Scotlandspeople the death certificate for John.....dates were kindly given by Matt....also haven't been able to find him before 1861. He gives his birth year as 1812 and birthplace as Holywood, Dumfriesshire

Closest on SP to age I could find although area isn't Dumfries but not impossible as a death occurring outside the home town of anyone would be recorded in the parish where they died whether working/visiting etc.
