Thank you Rosie, yes I have offered both certs on the free BMD site! I may have a third one going on as have just ordered a marriage cert for john Freeman & Sarah Edmonds For the year 1834 and have just been told this will not be a "full" cert with his parents names etc because its too early! Oh dear, I'm not having much luck. Have tried to cancel the Cert but its probably already in the system (ordered yesterday).  I've a lot to learn.  Thanks again Rosie  :-*

Where have you ordered the marriage from? Civil registration began 1 July 1837, before that there are only the church registers.
Your marriage is online, it was 14 January 1834, at St Mary Lambeth.
John Freeman, bachelor, and Sarah Edmonds, spinster. Both of the parish, by banns. Both signed, witnessed by Henry Harris, Ellen Edmonds (is there a third witness?)
John

Talking of before 1837, Margaret Freeman's birth found its way into Dr. Williams Library. The certificate says that she was born 25 November 1836, at 105 Vauxhall Walk, Lambeth, Surrey.
Parents John Freeman, a ? labourer, and Sarah Freeman, who was the daughter of Joseph Edmonds, of 9 Vauxhall Walk (gives occupation)

Thanks.  John Freeman was definitely an Artist as his son Henry's birth cert dated 1840 stated this as hiis profession.  I ordered the marriage cert for 1834 over the telephone at GRO  yesterday and paid for it. I have tried to cancel once I found I wouldnt get more details about John's family. I have all the details on the Edmond family and where Sarah was after the death of John Freeman. Unfortunately I could carry on ordering death certs for John without getting the right year.

I think you are right Rosie!
Might be the microfilming that has left bits of the writing faded.
I do hope that the GRO will give a refund. There were marriage certificates back then, copies made from the church register, like baptism certificates, and paid for.
But the GRO doesn't do that sort of thing! Very strange.
