Marriages Dec 1897
Bennett Mary Elizabeth Banbury 3a 1831 ---> Oxfordshire
O'Connor William Banbury 3a 1831 ----> Oxfordshire
Where did you get the Chacombe, Northamptonshire marriage record from?
Ahh - I see. Chacombe is a village and civil parish in South Northamptonshire, about 3 miles north-east of Banbury in neighbouring Oxfordshire. It has sometimes been spelt Chalcombe.
Registered in Banbury then, married in Chacombe.

Given the fairground boxing booth connection? Might be worth a look through:
"Jack Ayres fairground boxer in Wiltshire settled in Amesbury Wiltshire think a Walter Ayres is related"
http://www.GenesReunited.co.za/boards/board/ancestors/thread/1319463?d=desc&page=0
On the thread
"Do you have access to newspapers? There are a few article regarding Ayre and Hughes Gypsie families in the Wiltshire area:
The Salisbury Times - Friday 20 December 1907- Gypsies In Trouble
Article about children William and John Ayres damaging growing grass at Allington."
-
Thank you whiteout7....do you have a link pls to access newspapers tthread pls..
-
The GenesReunited newspaper link is not free so No.
I might have found something else though
?
"Mr. Rawlings said prisoner worked for him over a year ago, and gave his name William Ayres."
The Salisbury Times Wiltshire, England
20 Dec 1907
Same date. There seems to be a few William Ayres around

Just think its going to be ni on impossible to find out where he came from.....who he was before 1897.....
-
What about Mary Elizabeth Bennett, who were her family. Can you go back at all with her?
Was she born around the time he was?
Bennett can be a gypsy surname like Ayres
Maybe as DNA tests get cheaper you will be able to find some families that share DNA with you? So not all hope is lost, just not discovered yet

Yes iv gone bk a bit with the Bennett side.....maybe some more digging needed there. ...cheers and all the best
