Title: Frances (Fanny) Jane Waite
Post by: Tim Brayshaw on Thursday 15 June 17 22:29 BST (UK)
I have a Frances (Fanny) Jane Waite, born 1886 in Lambeth, Surrey.

Her marriage certificate, in 1910 to a Frank Jordan shows her father as Charles Waite a Fruit Salesman (Doesn't say deceased). She is a spinster so not previously married. She was married in the county of Kent (Medway?)

I can not find her on the census in 1891 or 1901, or in 1911 with her husband either.

Can anyone help find this person?

22 years old, it looks like it says, Stoker, RM as occupation. And address was 10 Dale Street, Chatham. They lived together at the time.

Not necessarily. A lot of couples gave the same address so that the banns only had to be called in one church as it was cheaper. Sometimes it was the address of a friend or relative.

Thank you for that piece of information, i wasn't aware. Also thank you for the baptism record...I'm trying to find the marriage from that now; as both the Jordans and Waites are becoming very difficult to find across the board!

Now this is interesting because that middle name was in a possible marriage record for Charles' parents!

That could explain it then if he was given a name of a grandparent.

I can't find the family in 1891 or 1901 although Samuel is in the 1901 married to Elizabeth and living at 17 Wootten Street.

Thank you for this. In 1901 there is a Fanny Waite in an Orphanage...would this make no sense?

Don't think it's her in orphanage, family had a number of children all seemingly raised by parents.

Not locating 1891, but the couple are having children born in area. At least the mother has not remarried, or parents died.

Maybe missed off 1891 census, or its unreadable?

Fanny would be 15 by 1901 so could be working and living elsewhere as a servant. If that is the case her name may have been recorded incorrectly. You say that she was married in the Medway area of Kent, but her family seem to remain around the Lambeth/Southwark area of London, so perhaps she was working as a servant in that area and married from there?
