Just be aware that the Manx Museum Library is only open from Wednesday to Saturday; as from 1st August.

This was mentioned in an email I had from Manx National Heritage.

Parish Registers are available on microfilm up to 1883.
After that date you need the actual registers.

See: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arbory_(parish)

the only family with these two names is Charles Radcliffe + Margt Kinvig m Arbory 1789-08-28 -
at least 5 ch 1792-1804; Is this the family you are researching?
Charles (noted as fisherman)+ wife + son James are at Conican in Arbory in 1841 census -
he appears to have bought this property in 1808 [deed SSS May 1810 85]
both Charles + Margt are buried in Arbory at good ages
if you are wanting to visit grave it would be best to check at Manx Museum
if there are any Memorial Inscription(grave markers) + get a copy of plan of yard

Wm Radcliffe m Isabella Creer Arbory 18151104
their 1st child was Wm (who I think is your Wm(1816) ) bapt Arb 18160714 followed by Ann + James
Isabella d 1823 and buried at Arbory
Richard then appears to have married Ann Kermod Arb 18250127 but don't think there were children from this marr
in 1841 Richd Ann + youngest son James were at Ronague (not quite in middle of nowhere but pretty close!)
in 1851 still at Ronague with son wm (who was a servant in Kk Patk in 1841 I think) next door with his wife + children
by 1861 Richard + Ann are farming 8ac at Ballacallin

Thankyou so much for all the info..I can't wait to come over in August and visit all the areas.1 place I can't wait to visit where they lived a place called Eary cushlin think its in Patrick,,I will find it!!!

Eary Cushlin is indeed in patrick - above Lag-ny-keelly (look up names in www.manxnotebook.com) -
bring good walking boots + you will need a car to reach some places unless you enjoy walking
as Sophia Morrison put it in one of her stories (the child without a name) Eary Cushlin is a terribly lonely place ...
you can 'do' Patrick + Ronague by driving from Peel via Dalby and onto the Round table then take the Colby road coming down thru Ronnague
Richard didn't own any land - he tenanted 14 ac in 'Rhennag'  - see the 1841 tithe composition book held by Manx museum - also there is a plan of the holdings-
a neighbour in the same patch of ground was the Charles Radcliffe I mentioned earlier (he also owned a small intack) -
my own guess is that both describing themselves as fishermen were somehow related

I have so much more research to do thankyou..I don't drive so was hoping to get a bus as near as I can then walk the rest,I am staying in Douglas so hopefully there will be plenty of buses lol..
Title: Re: Link: ISLE of MAN- Religion & Churches

there are no buses to Ronnag but you could walk from Eary on the rather infrequent 4C route -
suggest you look up on www.iombusandrail.info + pick up a timetable from the info centre in the sea terminal
- also buy a rover ticket + allow more time than you think for bus journeys - also buy a good map

If you are traveling to Eary Cushlin from Douglas, then I suggest you get the bus to Niarbyl Bay Cafe (Service 4) and walk from there? (Getting off on the main Dalby Road, before the bust goes to Niarbyl)

You can look at some parts of the island using Google. I think this is the location you want. It looks remote, the sort of location that you don't want to be walking around if there's a chance of rain:-

Arbory Church has a graveyard.
New ones were added in 1885 to the North and in 1923 to the left of the path.

The church is on the main road in Ballabeg.
Buses 1, 11, 12 and 1H stop there.
There is also a station at Ballabeg on the Isle of Man Steam Railway.

I strongly suggest that you call into Manx Museum (open Weds thru Sat) and get copies of the plans of graveyards -
also check that the people you are researching actually have a grave marker (not all do) and that it is still extant so you can find it using the plan
Title: Re: Link: ISLE of MAN- Religion & Churches
Post by: Blue70 on Sunday 23 July 17 15:30 BST (UK)
Yes if you're grave hunting to save time either get a graveyard plan sent to you by e-mail or get one from the museum when you visit. At the museum there are various grave inscription books if the people you're looking for aren't in them then they will have unmarked graves. Any inscriptions you find in the books take a note of them or photo so you have a copy of the grave letter & number & inscription. Then look for the grave letter/number on the plan.

If you are interested in Arbory I went there last year and if you're going by bus best to ask the driver to give you a shout when you are nearby as I remember there was a little walk between the bus stop and the church. You could easily miss the stop. There's a gated part of the graveyard where there are sheep droppings, cheap labour cutting the grass ;D although there were no sheep when I was there. Here are some Google views:-

Edit: best to go by bus or car as the railway station, although named Ballabeg, is quite a walk away.

Arbory Church has the following graveyards:

Old Yard
Ancient Yard
Triangle Yard
Second Yard
1923 Yard

I studied the list of Monumental Inscriptions for Arbory - William Radcliffe appears not to have a marker. So, probably an unmarked grave.
As I said before, I can't find a burial for Margaret.

Thankyou so much for that kGarrad...I was thinking bit of a long shot but because they lived at Erie cushlin that is near or in dalby Isn't it I was thinking could they be in that church ...I am going to travel to as many churches as I can while I'm there ..thanx again..

I don't think that's the case here?
William is on the Burial Register for Arbory (I double-checked!).
But there is nothing on the MI Index & Transcriptions.

Dalby isn't a parish, but is within Patrick parish.
However there is a church at Dalby (St James), but no burials?
Title: Re: Link: ISLE of MAN- Religion & Churches

there is no graveyard at Dalby (see www.manxnotebook.com/gazateer/gyards/cems.htm) for list of yards
and comes under Patrick not Arbory

Good luck with that!

There are 17 parishes on the Isle of Man.
Each parish church has/had a cemetery.

Plus:

    St Mary's (Ballure), Ramsey 1749-
    St Mark's, Malew 1778-
    St Luke's, Baldwin (Braddan) 1836-
    St Jude's, Andreas 1846-
    St Paul's, Foxdale (Patrick) 1880-

Peel has a separate cemetery on the outskirts of the town.
Braddan (which used to include parts of Douglas) has a separate cemetery.
Douglas has a Borough Cemetery on Glencrutchery Road.

Miss Nosy,

Aren't we getting the wrong end of the stick here? We're interested in burials at Arbory ie one burial place. Now from past experience with my main churchyard of interest, Malew, a number of burials I had did not have a grave inscription so I couldn't visit them at all. Others buried there did have grave inscriptions so I was able to find them and photograph them. If an Arbory burial does not have a grave inscription it doesn't mean they're not at Arbory churchyard. It just means the grave is unmarked.

Good evening every 1..ok so finally back to normality now..I have so much to follow up after what I found on my holiday but really exiting putting it all together..I went to Arbory and to be truthful it wasn't how I imagined it..yes a lot of my family are buried there but only found 3 graves readable..grass is overgrown in a lot of places I understand it's an oldish church but surely they could cut the grass ..I got a plan map from the museum and can now trace where my ancestors were buried..Patrick was amazing but the ram and sheep did not like me being in there I didn't stay long so that is Defo on my list next time..the most disappointing was the road to where I really wanted to go Eary cushlin was still closed they said it would be open by the 2nd of August it still wasn't open by Sunday so no buses on that route..on my list again for next time..positive note I loved my whole stay saw so much of the island especially fell in love with port Erin..and I believe I may have found a long lost relative he still lives in Andreas which is where my line starts from ...Ill keep you all updated plus I may still need your help along the way!!!!
