Title: Ancestry records or trees?
Post by: kall on Wednesday 28 June 17 18:22 BST (UK)
Googled Elizabeth Roan and John Copland and first search took me to ancestry detailing parents names, siblings and children. The question is are these records or are they from trees....don't want to update my tree till I know
Help please
Karen

It's very unwise to update your own tree with information from another's ancestry tree without proving the connections with your own research. If the records are not attached to the parents, siblings etc, why don't you contact the tree owner and ask if they are willing to share their research [then you can decide whether it is watertight or not] and you can find out where their information comes from so that you can explore those resources yourself. The tree owner might have lifted it themself from an unreliable researcher....

Even when records are attached to trees, you still need to check for yourself. There are numerous trees that  have records attached to people, that on investigation, relate to someone quite different to the person in that tree.

I carried out the same Google search and the page it takes you to doesn't seem to be either records or people's trees. There also doesn't seem to be a way to drill down further from that screen to see the trees or sources they presumably used

So, as others have said, more work needed before you decide you can agree with what you're seeing. Or, alternatively, you can ignore it altogether

Thanks all....I never copy from other people's trees as I have seen so many mistakes. Just wondered if what I was seeing was ancestry records

Just to add -
SP seem to have at least 4 children to these parents , Elizabeth is down as Betty on 2 of the records.
