Title: Did George Alfred Carey and or his wife Francis immigrate to Canada
Post by: BUZZ on Saturday 15 July 17 18:22 BST (UK)
George Alfred Carey was born in 1874 in St Giles,or St Pancras, London.

He marries Francis (fanny) M Paul in 1897 Hamstead, London.

In the English 1901 census Rg13 piece number 183 folio 78 page number 27 George is age 26 Frances is 24 George age 1 Herbert age 2 these are the wrong ages for the children George Henry Carey was born in 1898 and Herbert Frederick was born in 1900.

I cannot find George or Francis in the 1911 census.

I found a death for a George Alfred Carey in 1907 Edmonton London but I'm not sure if this is the correct person.

I found several family trees on Ancestry listing Herbert and showing that he had immagrated to America and Canada, and his brother George Henry is shown with him entering America in the 1920s.

Herbert Frederick Carey marries Mary Martha Roffey on the 2/4/1923 York, Ontario, Canada Mary is a widow I believe her married surname may have been Douglas two of the witnesses were Philip and Ethel Carey these two along with a Edith Violet Carey and a Theresa Carey are listed as siblings of George and Herbert on a Smalley family tree on Ancestry I cannot find births for any of the four younger children in England.

My question is could anyone tell me if the parents George Alfred Carey and his wife Francis also emigrated to Canada or America.

You can also find the family in 1940 census with 5 kids

The corresponding ship passenger list shows that 16 yo Ethel was travelling with her.  The ship was the Empress of France, and it departed 25 Aug 1921 from Liverpool.  Their last address in the UK was 61 Baltham Road, Lower Edmonton, London.

rosie99 posted a possible 1911 census for widow Frances, a relative.

The 1911 census asks how many years each married woman on the schedule has been married, followed by how many children.  Generally, only the head and wife filled it out, but Removed.  Just another little hint that the George that died in 1907 is a good fit, as they would have been married ten years when he died.

Moderator comment: edited for content. You may only post information from the 1911 census that is available from a free search not the full transcriptions or images.

Apart from Rose Brunsdon (sister of Frances - mentioned earlier) There was also another sister Eleanor/Ellen Kealy born 1880 who also immigrated to Canada - so this could be the reason Frances also left the UK.
Canadian Passenger List - 22 November 1920 - shows William Kealy aged 44 years and family returning Liverpool to Quebec on the Metagama. Mrs E Kealy aged 40 years - Florence aged 9 years - Gladys aged 7 years-  phyllis aged 5 years born Canada.  Maud aged 3 years and Frederick aged 6 months. Had been in Canada 1913 - 1920.

3 August 1913 - Ascania - William aged 37 years - travelled alone.

Attestation Papers for William Kelay - dated 5 September 1915 - William husband of Eleanor/Ellen Carey Kealy.

http://www.bac-lac.gc.ca/eng/discover/military-heritage/first-world-war/personnel-records/Pages/item.aspx?IdNumber=495400

Would be interesting to see if an obituary could be found for Eleanor Kealy who according to an ancestry tree passed away 13 March 1952 Toronto.  Would the obituary mention Frances  ??? Husband William Kealy passed away 6 November 1957.

Thank you Sandra for such detailed information.

I am researching my cousins ancestry on her fathers side, her paternal grandmother was George Alfred Carey's younger sister Elizabeth, so George and Frances children were my uncles cousins.

I will pass all the information on to my cousin.
Again thank so much.
