Title: Marriage
Post by: wayne69 on Saturday 22 July 17 09:28 BST (UK)
Hello,
        I'm hoping to find information regarding a marriage in Nottinghamshire. I believe it was sometime during the First World War. All I have to go on is the surname of the groom, and that is Gouldbourne. All help and information will be most appreciated.
                        Many Thanks

Could it have been a second Marriage?
I cant find any Gouldbourne Births 1917-1925 with Mothers mn Booker.

I can only find 1 GHG born c 1865 Withington, Lancs
Married  in 1901/1911 Census to an Elizabeth.

Ok something going on here as Child born 1903 Lancs, Mona Gouldbourne has Mothers mn as BOOKER (Gro Index)
Geroge Arthur G 1901 same Mothers mn

Death Reg 1935 for GHG age 70

Trish :)

There's another birth in Ormskirk following on from the Mona found above

Vera in Sep 1905 has MMN Booker

But Eva Daisy whilst MMN Booker Dec 1897 is baptised with mother called Hannah.

Maybe Hannah and Elizabeth were sisters?

Everything matches;
1891 Withington;
George Gouldbourne   27, Ale and Port Bottler, born Withington, Lancs
Lizzie Gouldbourne. 27, Wife, born Dronfield, Derbyshire

1871 Census has a Elizabeth BOOKER born c 1864 Dronfield, Derbyshire, living there with her Parents William/Caroline and Siblings.

Hi,

I would look it up but as it's 1917 there is no index as to which church it would have been or it may have been the register Office and as Nottingham District covers a lot of Church's to many to go though one by one so I'm afraid I cannot help on this one. Sorry Trish  :'(.

Many thanks for the detailed contributions. It appears that behind the respectable but fake Victorian/Edwardian façade, the Gouldbourne's were living like many people do today.
                    Best Wishes to all.

Thanks for that NG :)

Yes, wayne69, it happened more often than you would think.

It is also possible Elizabeth or George were married to someone else 1871-1881 and it didnt work out.
They got together and didnt marry until possibly other Spouse died.

Trish :)
