I have just come across 5 brothers in the same family (from a photo) that all went to war but one died in WW1.
Really would like to know more dates on the others deaths which I can't find.....
William Telfer b1882 Southdean
John Telfer b1883 Southdean
George Telfer b1885 Southdean
James Telfer b1893 d1917 (we visited his grave in Arras)
Adam Telfer b1895 Jedburgh
Also a question please. I have a photo which isn't very clear of them all in uniform, how would I go about to know which Regiment they served in?
Thank you.

Hi
Re the photo - if you can scan the picture and put it up on the Armed Forces Board, I'm sure someone would be able to identify the regiment:

Do you know if the other brothers came back to Scotland, as death registration is different for Eng and Wales (or they might have emigrated).

As James was in the Royal Scots Fusiliers, it would be worth looking at that Regiment first for the brothers, then if no luck, I would search for other Scots Regiments.
If you search WW1 military records and put the surname Telfer, together with Scot or Scots as the keyword, you are likely to find the brothers.
They may not have used Southdean or Jedburgh as their birthplace, they may have used Roxburgh/Roxburghshire or even just Scotland as where they were born.
If you can find them in the WW1 Service Records, you should be able to confirm it is them if they have their next of kin listed on there.

I have no clue to be honest if they came back to Scotland. Because of the limited information I can't even find any family of theirs, wife, children etc...
Thank you I will put their picture up now.
-
Thank you. James Telfer wasn't in the Royal Scots Fusiliers.
And the brothers uniform were different to James uniform.
-
Which regiment was he in? I found a James Telfer died 22 Mar 1917 on the Arras Memorial and thought it was him!
-
What were the names of their parents?
Were they William Telfer and Agnes Smith?
-
He died 21/04/1917 Wancourt, Arras (I think Near Pas de Calais).
Their parents were William Telfer and Helen Thomson.
-
On the 1901 Census it looks as if George, James and Adam are with their parents at Jerdonfield Lodge, Jedburgh.
Parents are
William Telfer, 45, shepherd, b. Hobkirk
and
Helen, 45, b. Jedburgh

Great. So he was a Private in the King's Own Scottish Borders.
In the 7 8th Battalion his Regimental Number was 29939.
He enlisted at Hawick, Roxburgh, which maybe where his brothers enlisted too.

Possible death for William:
Langholm 1962 William Thomson Telfer, aged 80
It’s on ScotlandsPeople.
Could he have moved to Dumfriesshire?
-
Yes that's right :)
And yes I have found William and his family (sorry should've said that earlier) it's the other brothers really for more information. Brilliant help though so far thank you.
-
So do you have details of William's death - it wasn't clear in your first post.
-
George died Jedburgh , Feb 7th 1958.
Added - brother Adam was the informant.
-
Adam died 1967, Jedburgh
-
Yes I have Williams details and family. Thank you.
-
All except James and John are on SP.
-
Mmm that's strange about John isn't it? I wonder where he went to then??
Maybe I should put the photo on the Armed Forces part to identify any further details on the uniforms??
Thank you for the information very kind of you and helpful.

Check the 1911 for John. I believe he moved to England.
Sorry - can't give details, it's against RC's T&C.
-
I think John married a Celia KYLE she was born c1883 in Bombay, India, the daughter of Alexander and Annie KYLE, sister Lilian KYLE born c1897 in Hampshire.
John Telfer and Celia KYLE married Apr-Jun 1909 in Hartley Wintney, Hampshire.
Celia died 1954 in Crowborough, Sussex.
