Title: Maud Stanton, nee Welbourn
Post by: warkworth on Saturday 05 August 17 19:30 BST (UK)
I'm trying to discover what happened to my great-aunt, Maud Welbourn, born 24 May 1884 in Beverley.  She married Arthur Percival Stanton on 3 March 1906 at St. Mary's in Beverley. He was described then as a draughtsman. (He was born in Bedfordshire).

In 1911 they were living in Grovehill Road and Arthur, aged 30, is called an architect's assistant at County Hall.

After that, they seem to disappear. There is a family tree online, but there's no further information about Maud.  They do not appear in the 1939 Register (an Arthur P. Stanton of roughly the right age is there, but said to be single. I've found no evidence of a separation or resumption of maiden name).

I can find nothing definite on either of them after 1911.

The death of an Arthur P. Stanton, 75, is recorded in North Walsham, Norfolk in 1955 and linked in the tree to Maud's husband, but I haven't been able to confirm this.  I cannot find a plausible death registration, or anything else for Maud.

I can find nothing definite on either of them after 1911.

Can anyone please help.
Many thanks.
Joyce

Have you looked for any children born after 1911?

Arthur Percival Stanton's birthdate was 1 June 1880, according to his school records (in Bedford) and his Army records.

He served in the RAMC between 1914-1919, seeing service in India and South Africa.  He was recorded as a married assistant architect and surveyor (no children), of 2 Woodlands, Beverley, E. Yorks.

The "other" Arthur P Stanton of the same sort of age seems to be Arthur Percy Stanton, born 1880 in Bethnal Green.

He appears to have worked as a printer/compositor, and remained single, living in Essex.  Likely death for him is Mar qtr 1942 Essex South Western, aged 61.

Thank you both.

I did look for children, but didn't find any. I'll check again.

The military record is interesting and I'll follow that up, too.  The address given was Maud's mother's in 1911.  She died in 1914, at no. 6. The family did move around that road - or, possibly, the numbering changed as the street name was extended to cover all the houses.

I don't remember any mention of them as a child, but, then, it was a very large family!

Thank you again
