Title: Thomas Newman McIntyre 1846-1918
Post by: hardsocks on Monday 07 August 17 19:44 BST (UK)
I would like to find out anything about my Great Uncle Thomas Newman McIntyre.
He was a police constable in Victoria and was involved in the stringybark creek
incident with Ned Kelly in 1878.Would it be possible to find out the names of his family
when he arrived in Austrailia as this would be a great help with my family history
Thankyou

His death certificate would detail his time in Australia which may help identify his arrival.

There are three possibilities for his arrival - 1862, 1865 and 1867.  All with nationality Irish and occupation labourer.

Hardsocks as you live in Ireland you may be finding some of the information a little overwhelming as places have not been noted.

I would strongly suggest you read all the information on the link I previously posted which included several photographs not displayed on the site....you need to click on another link on the page to see the additional photographs.   The memorial plaque pictured was placed  by the grandchildren of Thomas McIntyre on his grave in Ballarat Cemetery in 1988.

Victorian BDM's are online at
https://online.justice.vic.gov.au/bdm/indexsearch.doj
however I will add the places of birth and death for Thomas's chn.

Thanks to Westward  :)

I wonder if Ballarat Genealogy Society have any further information about Thomas Newman and his life in Ballarat.  http://www.ballaratgenealogy.org.au/   Nothing like local information :)

Perhaps an email to The Alexandra Historical Society may yield a little more information about Thomas N.

Hi. I’m currently researching the police who were involved in the Stringybark Creek murders. I would welcome any information you might have on his life in Australia. I have some information on his birth etc in Ireland. Many thanks in advance
