You switch between the Morton spelling in your heading and Moreton in your post.  Samuel Holland Moreton (this spelling) married Agnes Bell at St Nicholas, Liverpool on 24 Feb 1838.  They were widower and spinster, both of full age.

Interested in ancestors prior to samuel moreton/morton cobbler who married margaret holland 1787. Also curious about margarets surname holland.

The name spelling  morton/moreton seems to have changed happily from one to other at will.

Samuel holland moreton was an upwardly mobile gent born 1794. Activities as money lender solicitor wapentek court wirral area.

Thank you for that. I did think the marriage of samuel was late and wondered if there had been a previous marriage with offspring.

Without a birthplace/birthyear - how would you know whether you had the right person if you found a baptism etc on FS?

If we assume he was a bachelor when he married Margaret and assume a birthyear in the 1760's - there is this entry on FS

Name    Samuel Morton
Gender    Male
Christening Date    14 Aug 1765
Christening Place    SAINT MARY,BURY,LANCASHIRE,ENGLAND
Birth Date    20 Jul 1765
Father's Name    James Morton

There is a will for a JOHN HOLLAND, yeoman, of Torbuck (near Huyton) for 1787, proved in 1831.
This will (1831) 'features' SAMUEL HOLLAND MORETON.
I think Margaret would have been John's daughter.

You can see the will via FamilySearch catalogue.

Marriage licences for the Diocese of Chester are on Find my Past. The free search indicates a number that would be of interest. To search go to Birth deaths and marriages and then search under Cheshire marriage bonds and allegations.

Thank you.

Are you a distant relative?

I am descended from catherine moreton who married william dodd wheelwright.  Daughter or sister of samuel holland moreton .

I havnt looked at my notes for some time.

Anyway catherines brother samuel moreton resurected the wapentec court and made and lost money over it.
