Title: Memorial inscriptions Old Swinford
Post by: Tom Langley on Friday 11 August 17 19:53 BST (UK)
Hi there, does anyone have access to the memorial inscriptions for st marys in old swinford? I understand you may have to pay to have access to these, but if someone would be willing to check for William Brookes who was buried there in 1820, i would be very grateful!

Tom

Hi Tom

Found one, I think, though one of the sites say he was buried at St James Harvington

Deleted the memorial - have just found the St Mary Burial on another site.

One of the main sites has an Old Swinford St Mary MI list of names, are you sure there is a surviving headstone as he isn't on there ?

Hi Tom,

I have the Old Swinford Monumental Inscriptions for St. Mary. I just had a look and can't see anything for a William Brookes who died in 1820 nor a Phoebe.

Hi, I am interested in an MI for Thomas Foley of Witley, which is referenced in a transcription on FindMyPast. According to this he died in 1676, but he is generally thought to have died on 1 Oct 1677.
Can anyone help with the wording of Thomas Foley's MI please?
Thank you, Don Lloyd

I have the CD for St Mary, Old Swinford but there is no MI for Thomas Foley of Witley.

Within the MI pages there is a heading Section I Interior.  Then numbered 57 is 'List of Rectors & Patrons of Old Swinford'.  There are three columns, Rector, Year & Patron.  The entries featuring Thomas are as follows:

Edward Eccleston 1673 Thomas Foley of Witley
Simon Ford D.D. 1676 Thomas Foley of Witley
William Halifax D.D. 1699 Thomas Foley of Witley

Many thanks Jomot, that explains the 1676 reference.

Hi Jomot,
My name is Paul Wooldridge. My family is originally from Oldswinford. Would you be prepared to sell me a copy of your CD of St Mary's Oldswinford memorial inscriptions? Or maybe you could tell me where I could get one from?
Many thanks
Paul Wooldridge

Hi Paul

The CD is from BMSGH (now renamed Midland Ancestors), but is quite difficult to navigate.

I've just checked their pages and they still have the CD for sale, and they also now have downloadable files.
