Title: Sinclair
Post by: bettyespana on Sunday 13 August 17 14:31 BST (UK)
My Gt Grandmother was Sarah Elizabeth Sinclair b.6 1.1845 Wick.
Sarah was a twin to Mary Helen Sinclair.                     "

There was also a brother Alexander Sinclair b.1847

Parents were: Kennedy Sinclair & Elisha Mackay

I wish to find out more about the siblings of Sarah E Sinclair.

Any help appreciated

Betty

Hi Betty,

Just in case I have found the wrong family can you give me some more information please before I post what I have found.

Was Kennedy Sinclair a soldier at some point ? It is an unusual name. The family I have in the 1851 and 1861 census were in Edinburgh but Kennedy was born in Wick.

Have you looked on Scotlands People for marriages for the twins and Alexander?

What is the last census you have found them on?

Hi Dorrie.

Yes Kennedy Sinclair was a soldier in the 92nd Highlanders of Foot.It is thought he married Elisha(Alice) in Antrim.Eventually he was a Chelsea Pensioner.
My Gt Grandmother Sarah Elizabeth(known as Bessie) was twinned with Mary Helen (who I think used the name Helen).
I got as far as the 1861c but then just followed Bessie.

I have lived abroad since 2003 & as a pensioner myself can no longer afford to subscribe online.

Recently I found that Sarah(Bessie) had married for a 2nd time, which we had never known.
Sarah 1st married George Evans but after he died she later married a Robert Brown.
In Parish records it has Charles & Helen Mackay as witnesses to thee marriage to Robert.
I decided to find out more about Sarah's siblings.
Mackay is also the nee name of their mother Elisha(Alice)

Hi Betty,

Rosie 17 found the same information as I had on the census records for the family.

A further search on Scotlands People Index (which I think you may have used in the past) shows a death for Kennedy Sinclair in Edinburgh in 1872.

I am on Ancestry and there are a couple of trees which have the following information -

Ann Sinclair married John Alexander on 3/12/1858 in Edinburgh
Mary Sinclair married David Hay on 30/11/1870 in Edinburgh
Both of these marriages are on the Scotlands People Index which you would need to check yourself to verify they are correct.

Catherine according to a family tree went to South Australia and married John Quintell on 24/11/1864 but unfortunately passed away on 17/11/1876 in Australia.

Nothing on Alexander, sorry.

Hope this information is useful.

Thank you Rosie,
I am not sure where John fits in with my Sinclairs. All I know is it is a vast clan & mine do go back to the Clan Sinclair & the Earls of Caithness through Kennedy Sinclairs parents.
It is just that I had not followed through tracing my Gt Grandmother Sarahs siblings & it is this info which you & others have kindly found & sent to me.
regards

Hi rosie,

I must apologise because I have only just found that I did have this one,but not with any detail.
Apparently John M was born in Dublin, however that could be incorrect.

I note that Ann (1) b.Caithness on 1841c (as above)
On the 1851 age (11) Anne is b.Ireland
