Hi all,
I'd like to submit a request to look up my 2nd great aunt Miria Davies. Miria (according to 1901 census; Source Citation Class: RG13; Piece: 5011; Folio: 5; Page: 2. but could possibly be Maria) was born in Pontypridd in 1886. I can't find no census record, marriage or death records for her. I would assume she got married so the surname has changed hence not finding a death record or marriage record but I would have thought I'd find a 1891 census info for her. Her parents were William Davies and Sarah Elizabeth Davies. Any help on this subject would be gratefully received.

What name is on her birth registration. Have you looked for her with Sarah's parents in 1891

There is a random 3 yr old MAry H Davies, bn Ponypridd on 1881, as a niece in a household. So you may need to investigate her to see if she is the same person as the MAry H in 1891.
William and Sarah are old enough to have been married before - have you got their marriage cert? Were either widowed? In which case Mary H could be Williams from a first marriage, and be 13/15 in 1881.
In which case, Miria, must be somewhere else on 1891, as not with her parents.

almost definitely Maria
Given the other names, mmn is Crockett. There's a Maria Davies with that mmn b Q4 1875 in Pontypridd

The 1881 mary H is here, she's with widowed uncle Edward Crockett (31), his sister Priscilla (15) and their parents George (60) & Mary (54)

sorry - just realised ages are all out, as yours was b 1886. However - still Maria!
There are two further Maria Davies with mmn Crockett - b 1883 and 1885 in Pontypridd. I can only assume the first two died (can see potential registrations) and the name kept being used.

Thanks for your replies, the Mary H Davies you refer to is probably my great grandmother Mary Hannah Davies. I agree though that Miria is probably Maria (although Miriam is a possibility) There was a previous daughter who was called Maria who only lived to 5 or 6 so the name was probably carried on. Can't find her with grand parents, siblins or uncles and aunts. I shall keep looking, Regards

I think Mabel has provided enough evidence to indicate it is Maria! And even followed up the MAry H I found with the Uncle - thus to prove the MAry H on 1891 was not actually Miria!
So the only question now, is where is Maria in 1891?
There is a 5 yr of Maria living as niece in H/H of an Elizabeth Davies in Llantrisant - RG 12 4418 29 12, who might be worth further investigation.

Don't think the niece in Llantrisant is yours. Place of birth is Trealaw - someone has posted a birth cert image on ancestry of a Maria b Trealaw, daughter of Morgan Davies and Mary Ann nee Jones

I agree Mabel, can't find any uncles or aunts to match the ones on the census although her parents are in residence in near Pentre in 1881, Regards
