Hi everyone.
Has anyone got any info on this family please?
Helen (Ellen) 13th March 1821
Mary 28th February 1823
Ann 1826
If anyone has info on William Morton 1770 and his wife "Flora" 1770 I would be grateful. They are the parents of William 1796. He had a brother John 1799.
Many thanks
Maggie

Hi Maggie,
Just do what I do when trying to help others.
1)Check FreeBMD for possible Marriage for the Girls.
The check for the possible Spouses on the 1851 Census and see if their Wives match the Girls POB/DOB
2) Check Familysearch for possible Marriages.
3) Check FreeREG
Trish :)

Was Ann c 1826 born In Leics?
1851 in Nottinghamshire we have;
Ann Morton, 34, Head, Unm*, Shoebinder, born Leicestershire
Ellen Morton, 8, Daug, born Sneinton, Nottinghamshire
James Morton, 6, Son, born Nottinghamshire
Looks like Ellen was Reg as Ellen Wilkinson Morton 1843
1861 Census
Nottimgham, Nottinghamshire
Ann Morton, 44, Head, Mar,
Catherine*** Morton, 64, Mother
Ellen Morton, 17, Daug
James C Morton, 15, Son
FreeREG has a JAMES WILKINSON Morton Bapt 28 March 1842, St Mary, Nottingham
Mother ANN Morton
Abode Union St
(may have died as doesnt appear 1851 Census)
1871 Census
Calerine Morton, 77, Head, Widow
Wenfina LANE*, 70 (hard to make out but down as Mother!)
Ann Marton, 54, Daug, Unm
1881 Census
Ann Morton, 64
Jaes Morton, 35, Son
Elizabeth Morton, 32, Daug in Law
Olive Morton, 8
Percy Morton,7
1841 we have;
Catherine Morton, 45
Ann Morton, 15
So if right Family it appears Ann did not marry
-
FreeBMD has a Ellen Morton Marriage 1841;
1841 in Nottingham we have;
Wm Smith, 20, Coalman
Ellen Smith, 20
Using ne GRO Index we have;
SMITH, MARIA, Mothers mn MORTON**
GRO Reference: 1843 D Quarter in NOTTINGHAM Volume 15 Page 594
Cant find them on 1851 Census though.
EDIT a Tree has William/Ellen Smith having Children;
Mary 1841
Maria 1844
John 1847
They also say Ellen died 1848 and there is a Death Reg;
SMITH, ELLEN, age 27***
GRO Reference: 1848 D Quarter in NOTTINGHAM Volume 15 Page 405
You would nee the M/C to establish if this is your Ellen though.

Thanks Trish.
Could it be that Ann had 2 children out of wedlock,then? I saw that but wasn't sure it could be my family. Rebecca,Helen/Ellen and Mary was born Nottingham.
Maggie

Do you have all their Baptisms to confirm they were born Nottingham.
Catherines Occp seems consistant on nearly all the Census to me.
-
Rebecca,Helen and Mary all bap St Marys,Nottingham. 1841 she is with her mother Catherine born in county, they lived next door to Ellen and William. 1851 it says born Leicestershire.
-
Hi Trish.
Thank you for all the info and guidance. I've found all the info I needed.1871 census,"Wenfina" "Mother" is in fact Benjamin - Brother. I enlarged it to full capacity. Even found her death,1889. It was the 1851 census that threw me which gave her birth as 1826.
Many thanks
Maggie

Sorry 1841 census not 1851
xx
-
So everything is correct then?
I presume you have this;
Baptisms St Mary, Nottingham
CATHERINE Lanet 03 Dec 1793
THOMAS 13 Oct 1796
BENJAMIN Lane 1 Feb 1801
Parents BENJAMIN/ANN
Marriage;
22 April 1780, St Peter, Ruddington
Benjamin LANE, Groom Parish Bradmore p of Bunney
Ann OLIVER
Baptisms Ruddington;
SAMUEL 9 Jan 1781
MARY 8 Feb 1782
ISAAC and FRANCIS 24 March 1786
THOMAS 21 Jan 1788
REBECCAH 22 Nov 1789
JOHN 2 May 1792
So looks to me that they married Ruddington, had children there and then move to Nottingham, Nottinghamshire and had 3 more children.
Found on FreeREG and Familysearch.Org

Thanks both. As I just wrote in an email to Maggie, I only found this yesterday - I'd reconstructed the same family independently and was relieved to see my conclusions validated by this thread.
Now that I'm here, I'll sooner or later get round to participating properly
