Title: Death of Caroline Dobson
Post by: MacGrigor on Sunday 27 August 17 21:10 BST (UK)
Hello,

Caroline was born in 1838, as Pochin, and married John Dobson, of Welford, Northants, in Wigston in about 1855, if memory serves. He would outlive her, and died some time after 1901. The couple lived in Wigston.

Thanks,

Adam

To narrow it down, when was the last census she was found alive?

I believe it was 1881.

ancestry links to a death for Esther Caroline Dobson in 1888 Blaby age 49 but your Caroline doesn't seem to be down as Esther just Caroline so not sure if this is her.

John is a widower in 1891 and 1901 so he hasn't died before 1901.

Yes, that's the one I've come across. No mention of the name Esther on any census or birth records.

Sorry, I meant after. He's with his son-in-law in 1901.

Wigston Magna comes under the Blaby registration district, it's also the right age. Failing anything else, the only way would be to get that death certificate to conform or eliminate.

Yes just about to say the same.  Only way really is to get the certificate.  It's the best option on the table but no idea where Esther has sprung from  :-\

I shall probably have to do that then. I've no idea where the name's come from. I've a number of ancestors who've given themselves middle names, but never a new first name. Interesting.

I can't see an Esther Caroline Dobson anywhere else. Perhaps she was always called Esther by her family.

Yes, that's certainly plausible.
