Title: The Mortimers in Dorset
Post by: Newberrychaser on Monday 11 September 17 07:20 BST (UK)
Hello again Chatters!

::) Looking for Edmund Mortimer's castles.  Can you help?  :-*

Does anyone have an idea of how to acquire more information about Mortimer land holdings?
My research has led me to an Inquisition that points to Edmund Mortimer, Earl of March owning the manor of Lulworth St. Andrew in Dorset.  At his death, his nephew Richard Duke of York held the property.  Of course, they were descendants of William the Conqueror who owned it at Domesday.

By all accounts there was a castle on the property probably up until 1641 (now extinct).  I would love to know if there is a repository somewhere in England that has kept records of the Mortimer's holdings and hopefully, at least, a description of the building.  I have contacted the Mortimer Society, but have yet to hear back from them.

Thanks chatters!  Keep chatting!  ;D :D

Presumably you are referring to  Edmund Mortimer, 5th Earl of March and 7th Earl of Ulster (1391-1425)?
Rather than Edmund Mortimer, 3rd Earl of March and Earl of Ulster (1352-1381)?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edmund_Mortimer,_5th_Earl_of_March

I would suspect that his will might list properties?

Have you checked the online catalogue of the Dorset History Centre?
