Title: George W Welbourne married Elsie May Cox any further info ?
Post by: Scott_M on Saturday 16 September 17 01:14 BST (UK)
George W Welbourne B 1909 D 1978 who Married Elsie May Cox B 1912 D 1976
Elsie had a sister Irene May Cox B abt 1915

Elsie and Irenes father was Arthur Bryon Cox 1888 - 1925
There mother was Florence Brown 1889 - 1974.. Florence had a brother Robert Wright Brown B 1896 married Marie Ferguson McCarlie B 1893

Florence and Robert Brown - Mother was Mary Wright 1864 - 1942 - She married Robert Findlay Brown

I am particularly interested in the Maternal side of Elsie and Irene Cox coming through the Wright family where a number ended up in the Toronto area of Canada.. Mary Wright had siblings = Jane Wright, Margaret Morland Wright, John Morland Wright & Alex Cairns Wright.. He married a Keturah Anne Tindall...

Would love to identify further on the Wright family but wonder if the Subject header couple had any family ?

Any further leads on the people mentioned I would be grateful

Thanks

Elsie M Welbourne's obituary says that she had 2 children.  She died Dec 22, 1976.  Wife of George.  Mother of Mrs H E Clasper (E. A.*) and Mrs B P Ould (M).  Grandmother of E G Clasper, J A Clasper and G W Ould.  Sister of Jean Audrey Smith.  Interment Mount Pleasant Cemetery.

Toronto Star, 24 Dec, 1976, page C8.

* I didn't use full names...if Elsie was born in 1912, then her daughters are most likely still living.  The husbands of the two daughters are listed by initials in the obits, but the daughters' full names are given.  Will PM you.

Could this be Robert and Mary Brown with children Robert and Florence in 1901?

http://automatedgenealogy.com/census/ViewFrame.jsp?id=110618&highlight=24

If so, Robert Sr and Mary were both born in Scotland and came to Canada in 1885 and 1886 respectively.

Robert Wright Brown and Marie McCarlie marriage.  This says that Robert's father, Robert Finlay Brown was from Port Patrick, Scotland.

Not sure if you already have this information.

Is this the marriage of Robert Finley Brown and Mary Wright??  Toronto, 1887??...

https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:9Q97-Y39R-BJ4?i=877&cc=1784216

He works for the railway (1901 census says he is an Engineer),and they are both from Stranraer Scotland (fits with location of his birth mentioned on their son's marriage registration).

Do you have all of this?  Do you already know where in Scotland the Wrights are from, Mary's parents etc??  Are you only interested in Mary Wright's relatives' descendants here in Canada?

Hi RK, Thanks again.. The Wrights are from Stranraer in Scotland.. There mother was a Jane Morland who married a John Wright .. I did not have that marriage notice and I can see that Robert Brown is from Stranraer also .. Great info there.. I also note that John Morland Wright is a witness which is great info as I am trying to find out his fate .. Margaret Morland Wright was also a sister born in 1862 in Stranraer.. Not sure if she ended up in Canada.. There mother died in 1880 and I wonder if the father.. John Wright snr born abt 1835 (from Ireland) ended up in Canada ?? I cannot see him in Scotland.. Jane Morland is laid to rest in Stranraer... There was another sibling who was Alex Cairns Wright who married a Kenturah Tindall.. I am aware that Alex born 1872 in Stranraer ended up in Canada .. so maybe Margaret Morland Wright also ended up there.. as 3 out the 4 of the Wright siblings are noted by the looks of things ...

I am interested in all the descendants of all the Wright family mentioned.. These folk are related to myself through Mary Wright Nee Morland D 1880 .. Distant cousins ..
I really appreciate the info being offered .. it has opened up a few great leads already RK .. Thanks again .. fantastic info indeed

OK - I see you have quite a bit of information on Alex and Keturah already.

So, we are looking for Jane Wright, John Morland Wright and Margaret Morland Wright (siblings of Mary Wright Brown)??  You want to know if they came to Canada, and if so...what happened to them.  Also, their father John Wright Sr...born in Ireland about 1835, but lived in Scotland.

Had a look in the papers to see what I could find about that John Wright.  He was 25, a brakeman for the Grand Trunk Railway.  He was also single.  He boarded at 355 Queen Street West.  Funeral from his sister's home at 45 Mercer Street.  He had been working on a freight train heading for the west.  He was last seen on the top of the train.  His body was found just outside of Georgetown.  They think he fell from the train (it was a windy day).

Looks like that could be your man...

1891 Toronto Directory has Robert Brown and Charles Cowie listed under 45 Mercer street.

Image 282 (page 278) for the Street directory listing for 45 Mercer...

Image 586 (page 597), Robert Brown, eng Hees, Anderson and Co, h (home) 45 Mercer Street.

Looks like Charles Cowie may have died in 1893

Charles Cowie was born in 1866, Scotland.

I have attached the sections from the directory.  If you go to the link I posted, the whole directory downloads...very slow!!

Hoping that Mr Charles Cowie married one of the Wright sisters, I looked for him on the 1891 census.  His wife is Mary from Ireland!! So, not one of your missing girls.

Here are Robert, Mary and Florence in the 1891 census

Perhaps they knew Mr Cowie from Scotland??
