There is this mention in a Gazetteer of Heritage Assets. Apparently it was thought that  Cogshead is in the centre of a possible Celtic burial ground, and was a farm in the C17, with ruins still visible.

Added: I seem to be having trouble getting the link to work, I'll try to attach it.  ;)

There is also this interesting blog about the Craignorth Martyrs , with a photo of the ruins at Cogshead.

Hi Maddy,
Thank you so much for replying to my e/mail. The attachment was so interesting. I wonder if there was an older house there in the days of the covenanters, as the one standing though a ruin, doesn't look old enough. I don't suppose we will ever know.
           cheers Cathiemay

Cogshead is shown on Wm Crawford map of 1804 along the Cogs Burn available ate NLS.

There is a plan of Cogshead and adjacent land from the 17th C that you can acquire at NRS which is one of only 2 entries.

And lastly these two estate maps.

In 1831 it is along the burn where it dips into a "V" but it is not labelled and by 1856 it no longer is no longer there.

Hi Don,
Thank you so much for sending the maps.  I have had an enjoyable time looking at them. I really like looking at maps esp., old ones to see what used to  be there. Thanking you again for all  your trouble.     regards  Cathiemay
