Can anyone read the place name here please, given as place of birth on the left? Looks like Bl---, Holywell. I've looked on an old map and done a wild card search. Nothing. It might be a tiny hamlet not marked.

I've tried inserting image but I don't think it worked. It's a png image 175KB size, so it's legit. However, think I've attached it.

It look like Block or Bluck to me - odd :-\
Addded - nearest I can find on the NLS maps id Brocnallt but doesn't look like that at all.
-
Nothing like it in the copies of Holywell Parish Registers pre 1840 I have either.

Could it be "Bwlch" with the "w" and "l" transposed?

Thanks all.. I'm wondering if it's the name of a house, but that would be unusual surely... father here is a collier.
Yes, it's a copy of a birth certificate in the Holywell District and Holywell subDistrict. The family in 1871 census are at Near Mill, Flint.. and the parents stayed in the area.

I wondered about Bwlch.. but it really doesn't look like that.. as gadget says.. it looks like Block or Block? Hhmmm
-
There is a Bwlch in Rhes y Cae not far from Pen y Parc as per your other thread.

Yes, I think that is what I saw on a map.. failing other options Bwlch is the best.
By the way.. this is Mary Davies' birth certificate.. the subject of another thread which you all helped me with. It arrived this morning and confirms father Thomas collier and mother Sarah Griffiths. At last! So thank you very much for all your help.

I think its just a word that may be just specific to the Holywell District,or indeed any District of the time in terms of Birth Registration.

I agree - it could be that there was a place there known to locals as 'Block' - just as all localities have special names for particular areas - I know of quite a few in the village where I grew up that aren't on any map or places listing.
-
Just a thought - is it worth doing a 'walk through' of the census pages for the area for 1861 (if it's available), to see if it's mentioned. A quick look at the enumerator's descriptions might be a starting oint.
-
I've also texted a cousin from Flint to see if he may know.

Nothing in District 1.
I remember a 'Block House' in my village but for the life of me I can't remember where or what it was :-\

There is a village near Holywell called Lloc:

Gadget
added - nearer to Flint than Holywell but in the Holywell RD.
-
You're a wizard gadget! All of you.. I looked in that map source.. ...and near Flint Mill because that was where they were in 1871. So they never moved far, except for Mary. I'll have to find a way to going to see the place now.
Interesting to note that Thomas signed with a cross, but Mary signed her marriage Register.
-
Yes,great find,Gadget.A different find to mine, but yours clearly corrrect. From adjacent properties(graig fadog) mine might well have actually been Bwlch as previously identified anyway!

I thought I was never going to find these Davies.. wonderful.
I've now got two birth certificates that don't match anyone in my family. If you know anyone that would like them, I'd be happy to send them and/or upload a copy. They are for
Mary Davies 22 Mar 1862 Holywell, Mold. Parents David Davies and Sarah formerly Thomas, and
Mary Davies 22 Aug 1862 Holywell Mold. Parents John Davies and Elizabeth Davies formerly Griffiths.
Of course they might turn out to be related later, so I'll keep a copy.
Did any of you notice that the GRO are doing a reduced price (£6) for 3 months on certificates..
