Hi,
I thought that my great grandfather James Aldridge was the son of James Aldridge and Jane Hughes with 4 sisters.
However My dad tells me that his grandfather had about 5 brothers ( as he remembers his Uncle Richie) so now on checking the 1881 census on a website I came across this info :-
Court- Upper Mann Street, Toxteth - John H aged 9, William aged 8, James age 4 ( my great grandad) and Richard aged 1 but no parents details mentioned???
Can anybody see any more info as to names of parents especially, their ages and place of birth.?
I'm hoping I havent made a boob on this as I may have to redo my tree!!! Oh dear....

The one you have mentioned is the son of William and Mary A. They are also on the census, although William is on the previous page.

Yes my James married Susan ( Susannah) Butler and they had several children including my Grandad John.
Am so confused....

1891 2930/71 shows James with parents William and Mary.
Who does he give as his father on his marriage certificate?

I would say that you need to get the certificate to check.
There is a marriage 25th December 1899 St Matthews Toxteth Park
James Aldridge 21 yrs father James, Striker 92 Grafton Street
Jane Lee 23 yrs father William Henry 23 Grafton Street
Could this be the James you found earlier?

I dont think so as my James who married Susan Butler was married in 1896.
I had James's parents originally as James Aldridge ( snr) and Jane hughes but am now backtracking and agreeing with you and Rosie that it must be William & Mary as that would tie in with the no of sons as my dad knew there were a few brothers whereas James & Jane Hughes had several daughters.

Sorry- that’s what I meant - perhaps the James you first thought was yours married Jane Lee not Susannah.

You are all absolute stars! I went wrong by having James who married Susan as having another James & Jane as parents with William being 1 of James's brothers! when he was actually my 2nd great grandad!!!
I already had Thomas Aldridge & Ann Knowles on my tree so they can stay as they are William's parents!
Yes I need to rejig my tree. Thanks again and I will now have another branch to check out with Mary Frodsham my new 2nd great grandma.

1861 census has John Frodsham b 1825 in Longhill,Cheshire and Jane ( Ollerhead ) Frodsham born 1824 in Mold ,Wales
they are living in Granville Street ,Runcorn ,Cheshire and John is a Dock Porter and Mary is aged 10
