I have a birth cert of Eliza Posnett b1850 in London. Her parents are William Posnett and Mary (formally Oilet).
I found Mary Oilet b 1802 in Wisbech and that ties up with a census of 1851
However I cant find a marriage of Posnett and Oilet. William Posnett had other children , seems to be with Mary Ann Gallant.
Do you think Oilet was written incorrectly? Did she die and he married again?
Any help you can give is welcomed - this is doing my head in!

James Posnett b1839/40 was my 2 x gg father, born Newton (Manchester).
So his mum was Oilet too?

The GRO index gives mmn Oilet for James

The Elizabeth Witt marriage gives that Williams occ as a Gilder. His abode St John, Liverpool

Then I dont think William Posnett is the correct one at all.

There is a marriage in 1837 between a William Possnett & Mary Williamson which might be worth keeping in mind

If Mary Oilet was born 1802 she was possibly married before. The child Mary age 5 in 1841 could be hers from another relationship :-\

That marriage suggests William was of Lowesby and Mary Williamson of this parish looks possibly to be parents consent?

The Posnett family seem to have been in Melton/Leicester/Peterborough.
Apart from William and family. William moved around a lot - I think building railways.
Son James was born in Newton.
There is a Susan Newton Oilet b 1804 in Wisbeach, 2 years after Williams wife. Surely Newton in her name is important?

Maybe Ann's
surname parents - It looks as though she was born in Ireland

Oh yes, Ireland, thanks for that!

It is now clear that William Posnett and Mary Oilet had
Mary 1836
Louisa 1838
James 1839/40
Later William had 2 more sons, born in France
William 1845
Frederick John Louis 1847
Thank you for your help so far, Mary Oilet is firmly on my tree, replacing Mary Ann Gallant (so I need to work out what to do with her).
Amazing to start getting this part of my tree correct.
