Yes they are all connected.

Leah died 11 Jan 1895, not 1894. There is a death notice for her in the newspaper. She is listed as the wife of the late Alexander Campbell.

Duncan appears to have had some issues and a temper they got him in trouble with law on numerous occasions. He assaulted his wife several times. In 1893 he threw a lighted lamp at her. His wife Annie seemed to have her issues too. In 1895 Annie was charged with adultery after Duncan & their daughter Leah entered the house and found Annie & another man in bed. Duncan didn't care but  the daughter Leah made the charge. :o

Duncan's wife Annie died in Sept. 1896. In 1898 Duncan didn't approve of the guy his daughter Leah was going with and tried to kill him and also  assaulted the guy's mother.  He was arrested.  The daughter Leah turned around and married the guy the next day. ;D

Leah 1900 census: https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:M9NZ-ZVB

Then in 1899 Duncan tried to kill himself by slitting his throat. But after he had done it he changed his mind and asked them to save his life. In 1901 he was an inmate in a house and apparently lost it and started wrecking the house house and chasing other inmates with a table knife. He was hauled away.

He died 23 Sept. 1918 at his sister Mrs. David Kidd's home. (Death notice)

There are more stories about Duncan, but these are the highlights.

Public Domain

In the United States, anything published on or before December 31, 1922 is considered to be in the Public Domain, which means that it is not protected under copyright, and no copyright permission is needed to copy, digitize, or use the publication in any way. With the wealth of newspapers published before 1923, we have focused our digitization efforts primarily on Public Domain content first, making as much of this content available as possible while avoiding the extensive research that’s often needed to determine the copyright status of post-1922 publications.

Traditionally, works fall into the Public Domain 75 years from the first date of publication. However, the Sonny Bono Copyright Term Extension Act of 1998 essentially froze the Public Domain cutoff date at Dec. 31, 1922 until 2019, at which point works published in 1923 and beyond will start to fall into the Public Domain on a rolling basis. So, newspapers published in 1923 will be in the Public Domain in 2019, papers published in 1924 will join the Public Domain in 2020, and so on. (That is, unless another Act is passed freezing the cutoff date yet again…)

Works in the public domain may be used freely without the permission of the former copyright owner.”3

The articles you can use without worrying include:
     • Articles published before 1923. This is the easy case. Any news article published in the United States before 1923 is in the public domain and you can reprint or republish it in any form you’d like without any copyright concerns at all.
     • Articles published between 1923 and 1977 without a copyright notice. For this time frame, if there wasn’t a copyright notice in the newspaper, it’s in the public domain. But you need to make sure there really wasn’t a notice. That means looking carefully at copies of the entire newspaper for at least a few dates at regular intervals during the period from which you want to use articles to see whether there is a copyright notice anywhere in the newspaper.
