working from age at burial of 88 in 1842, there's a baptism in Coity 23 Sept 1754 of John Hopkin son of Thomas & Mary.

Possible marriages
18 Dec 1786 in Llysworney John Hopkin & Mary Knowldin both otp by Licence, both sign, one of the witnesses was David Hopkin
6 June 1783 in Pyle, John Hopkin & Mary Thomas
There may be more...

just thinking is there any way of finding out what the occupation might be this far back, as on later censuses it is noted down.

occupations are sometimes mentioned on baptisms before 1813, not showing on the baptisms in Michaelston le Pit and can't see the Coity one online. There's also a son Thomas bp in Llysworney 15 April 1787 son of John & Mary. David & his wife Ann are also having children baptised in the parish.

Spent the afternoon in west glam archives as I don't live to far away but seems I have to go to Cardiff for my Hopkins family as Coity colwinstone etc are there. Mary Hopkins birth is on free reg but not on find my past or ancestry but I found it in the bishops transcripts records today so looks like a day trip for me in the near future. Thanks all for your efforts. By the way can't find a common link between David and John Hopkins yet apart from the marriage record so fingers crossed for Glamorgan archives 😀
