Title: Bowman - Calder, or Halifax, West Yorkshire
Post by: Cwellan CoDown on Sunday 29 October 17 11:38 GMT (UK)
Hi I am looking for information on my dads cousins who live(d) in West Yorkshire.

The mother is Bridget Bowman (born about 1910 née Mcanulty from Co down, Northern Ireland, who we believe moved to England when very young - her mother died when my granny,(elizabeth mcanulty - married Rafferty)  was born in 1918. Bridget has another sister Cassie who married Holland. The 2 sisters both remained in Co. Down

There is 3 children - a girl who may not be bowman and 2 sons who would be 65-75 now.

My dad believes his aunt Bridget got married at least twice, but the 2 sons are definitely Bowman.

Any information about these people would be wonderful!

Thanks, I seen this, but I don't think so.

She is listed as being a month old in The 1911 census.

My dad also thinks she married again after Bowman.

He remembers her coming over to visit my granny in about the late 50's early 60's and this was the first time her and my granny met.

Hi

If any of the people you have mentioned are still living you should remove their names - rootschat does not allow details of living people.

Could this be the re marriage of Bridget  :-\

Thanks I have removed the names of the "children".

I have been looking into that marriage and looking for a death notice for a possible  Bridget Hooper - think I am going to order the marriage certificate to see of it has any additional info!

She died around 1995 to 1997.

I have finally got somewhere with this, got the wedding certificate for Edith Bowman and George Hooper, and she is listed as formerly known as Bridget Bowman and the father is James Mcanulty  as expected.

Now, I need a marriage and divorce for Edith Mcnulty and Hugh David Bowman. 6hey were divorced before 1964 as this is when edith/Bridget got remarried aged 54.

Birth certs and marriage certs have the address listed as Queensbury, Yorkshire

Edith is listed as being welder for poultry cage manufacturers, would anyone know any poultry cage manufacturers in the Queensbury area in 1965?

Given that, I would think that she was living with him and using his name for quite a long time before they married.

Does it say that she is divorced on the marriage certificate?

Apologies meant to say Bridget Bowman not bridget hooper.

It says previous  marriage dissolved about her on the wedding certificate.

Both edith and george have the same address on the wedding cert, so I expect they were living together

Not a lot of hope for finding relatively recent divorces according to this

I think I may have found a death - the DoB is exactly right, although I have nothing linking her to Sheffield. and I would like to find something before ordering the death certificate

Anyone able to help with an obituary, or wills search etc (I am used to Irish research, not as sure on English, and searches on Ancestry aren't showing much!)

Name
Edith Hooper

Death Age: 78
Birth Date:20 Mar 1911
Registration Date: Jul 1989
Registration district: Sheffield
Inferred County: South Yorkshire

Given that it's the exact date of birth, it would be quite a coincidence if it wasn't her. Don't forget that Sheffield would be where she died, not necessarily when she lived - she could have died in hospital.

I can't see a will on the probate search  https://www.gov.uk/search-will-probate

Thanks for the links for the will search

I did think of it being a hospital, but Sheffield is not the nearest hospital to Queensbury, both Bradford and Leeds would be much closer, and from what limited contact we had with the family, there was no mention of her leaving Queensbury
