Title: MARRIAGE lookup request - TAYLOR - PEARCE 1845
Post by: jkgla on Sunday 05 November 17 22:00 GMT (UK)
From FreeBMD, Stephen Taylor & Mary Ann Pearce were married in Witney, Oxon, Registration District, Sept Q 1845.

I've checked the FREEBMD entries, but, I can't find any details of this marriage in the Witney, St Mary registers, or searching Ancestry for Oxfordshire, Gloucestershire or Berkshire (inc in registration district)

Many thanks for anyone who can pin this one down.  J

Hi

Why not order it?

You have all the detail needed.

Thanks for this - but it is useful, but fairly peripheral.  All the family events tended to be at St Mary's Witney, but this wasn't.

Thanks anyway.  jkgla

Marriages tended to take place in the bride's parish.

Records available on-line tend to be C of E, but there are all the non-conformist venues to be considered.

Plus Register Office venues.

I have considered these sources, but thought that marriages had to take place in C of E churches - and that registry office weddings didn't start until the early 20th century.

Many thanks,  jkgla

Prior to the start of Civil Registration in 1837, then marriages had to take place in a C of E church, except Jewish and Quaker.  And, I understand, that Register Office marriages were available from that same time.  :-\
