Hello!
I am trying to find an obit or info on
Robert John Thomas - b. 1904, Cavan Ireland and d. 1982 in Canada - not sure where.
He is buried with his mother at Pineview cemetery in Scarborough but there is no information.
Any help is much appreciated!
Regards

Hi
Is he actually buried with his mother or just mentioned on her headstone?
-
He is not mentioned on the headstone - I found out he is buried there from the staff at the cemetery when I was trying to find him! He died in 1982 but I don't know where. Sorry, not much help.

Hi,
I have looked for him in the Toronto papers... using a name search (variations too)... and he doesn't come up. Do you have a burial date/death date, or just the year 1982? Are there any other names that might be in an obit... maybe siblings, a spouse etc? Perhaps with some more information, I might be able to find an obituary for him???

Was it the cemetary staff who said he died in Canada or was that info from elsewhere?
-
Hi Carole and RK
I am sorry, I have so little information on Robert John Thomas.
All the cemetery staff said is that he was buried there and he died in 1982.
They told me that was all the information they had.
Should I go back to the cemetery and ask again?
By 1982, he was the last of the family - parents and siblings had all passed before him.
He had a wife: Kathleen Kerr Mcleod - b. 1910 and married Aug 15 1934 in Toronto.
I don't know if they had any children.
-
If he is buried there surely they can tell you when he was buried.

Correction: he was buried in 1987.
Pine Hills Cemetery, lot 816
He is not on the headstone.
-
Sorry I should have been clearer. Day and month in order to narrow search.

Would it be feasible that somebody who died in Canada having married there over 50 years ago would be flown back to England to be buried?
If his wife had died and they had no children - how were the arrangements made?
There is no death in England given the amended year of 1987 unless he died in his birthplace of Ireland. It would make more sense for his body to be flown from Ireland than from Canada

Correction: he was buried in 1987.
Pine Hills Cemetery, lot 816
He is not on the headstone.
Thanks for the correction about the year. Do you have a more specific date of death or date of burial?
In my search through 1982 obits, I was using "Pine Hills" because I was pretty sure that is what you meant. I have never heard of a Pineview cemetery in Scarborough.

Must be Pine Hills Scarborough surely RK. A lot of searching through the wrong year :-\ Could it have been a burial of ashes and that's why its not listed on the headstone ???

Yes - I was sure the OP meant Pine Hills. I used that as a search term, with variations of names....
Still can't find anything in 1987 by name search (with variants), or by name search (with variants) adding Pine Hills as an additional search term. An exact date of death or date of burial would be really helpful... then I could search by date. Sometimes an obit is in the paper, but doesn't turn up by name search and you have to search by date (or using other search terms..names of relatives etc ) that might be mentioned in the obit.
If he died elsewhere and there was nobody in the Toronto area to place an obituary in the paper...there might not be one.

Ed, I don't have that information.
I will try contacting the cemetery again .... stay tuned!
-
Just got a note from the cemetery - they have no information other than the date he was interred:
July 13, 1987

Well that is a little better. I know some I have contacted had only the year and others included the name of the funeral home and date of death.

Thanks for the date.
I went through the Globe and Mail newspaper and the Toronto Star... I checked all obituary listings from July 3 1987 to July 13 1987. There is not obit for your man in either paper during this time frame.
Sorry
