Title: Death of a sailor in Port Talbot in 1900

Hi,
My Great Grand Uncle, John Henry Gregory - Captain of the "Port of Oporto" was knocked down and killed by a tram/train in Port Talbot on the 24th. March 1900.
I'd appreciate any information on this.  e.g. was he buried in Port Talbot?  Was there a funeral (he was Catholic)?  Any headstone on grave - basically anything to add to what I've posted.

Have you checked that his body was not returned to Ireland  :-\

Have tried cemetery where other members of his family are buried, wife, parents, children - not there.  Leads me to think he didn't return home.

He has an entry in the "Deaths at Sea records" Details of his demise are much the same as the newspaper report.
The 1900 logbooks of PORT OF OPORTO official number 62655 may or may not give some information concerning his place of burial.
If the logbooks in question have survived they should be in the National Archives of Ireland. Never visited myself so cannot give advice of the protocol involved to view.

Thanks for this.  Never in the Archives myself, but have a reason now!  Will let you know how I get on.
(Perhaps "burial at sea" was the option taken"?)
