Title: John Taylor & Mildred
Post by: moo on Friday 10 November 17 19:56 GMT (UK)
Good Evening

I am looking for a marriage for John Taylor born 1796 Colsterworth Louth to a female called Mildred.

In the 1851 Census John is a carpenter aged 55, and Mildred is aged 49 Edward St Louth. They had 1 daughter Caroline that I know was baptised 1834 Louth and there are possibly 3 other children Frances, William and John.

I thought I had found them in the 1841 Census aged 45 and 39 Gospel Gate Louth ( cant for the life of me find it now ) I was trying to double check that Mildred was listed as Mildred. The reason for checking was I was thinking Caroline had married a William Cole 1855 Louth, all was progressing lovely till 1871 Census a mother is listed and called Mary ???.

Which then brings me to not being able to find either John or Mildred in 1861 Census.

Any ideas ......please

Many Thanks
Moo

You sound unsure as to whether you have the right marriage for Caroline?

Have you looked at the 1871 entry properly?  Mary was surname Waite - not Taylor and she is shown as the mother of the head of the household (ie) William Cole not as Caroline's mother.  If she was Caroline's mother she would be shown as mother in law

Have you checked freebmd for deaths for John & Mildred between 1851-1861?

Thank you Crisane - That's the one I am working from  ;D

Hello CaroleW - You are right I am not totally sure of the marriage and was thinking I was on the wrong track when I saw mother and the surname not being Cole. Then not being able to find Mildred and John in 1871 to check if Caroline was still with them.

I think (hope) I am right (before ordering any certs) is in 1851- 1881 Caroline's brother is a butchers apprentice, and William Cole is a Pigger / Cattle Dealer.  I was thinking that maybe thats how Caroline and William Cole met. Long shot - I know. ::)

Is Caroline your direct ancestor?  If so - you must know who she married

John - Thank you so much for the help, I have searched nearly all day and got nowhere.

Thank you everyone - I can feel that brick wall moving.

It also means I can move back a generation as his father was also called John Taylor who married an Alice.

Thank you John and Geoff,

I think I have found a marriage between Mildred's daughter Frances to a William Beech in Louth 1849.

Anna Maria could well have been her daughter in law.

Fingers crossed

Yes I think you are right re Frances marriage to William Beech.

The marriage I found is for a older Frances Taylor (from Census born c 1808 Colsterworth)

1851 Census Frances Beech is born c 1826 Louth.

I agree Anna Maria is likely her Daug in Law ( Anna Maria COE married John Taylor 1852)

Hello Trish

I wonder if that Frances Taylor you found born c1808 Colsterworth is a sister to John Taylor who married an Alice, possible parents William Taylor and a Frances  ::)

Going back to a previous post I downloaded the marriage cert for Caroline and it gave her father as John Taylor Carpenter. Caroline was a sister of Frances who married William Beech and I thought she may have married William Cole. On the marriage Williams father was not given and on his baptism his mother Mary was listed as a Cole -single woman, so I think it may bring me back full circle to the 1871 Census from that earlier post.
