Title: Help finding my grandad
Post by: chrissyw88 on Saturday 11 November 17 13:02 GMT (UK)
I have decided it would be quite fitting today to start the process of tracing back my grandads Military service / history.

I've searched on various websites and can't see any trace of him. We don't know what his number was, we believe he joined the Staffordshires (not sure which date), then served in the Worcesters and after that joined the Military Police and ended up in Palestine with the Palestine Police, for which we have his number.

Will the MOD archives be able to provide information about his complete military history? When submitting the form I can't see any mention of the police, just Army, Navy, RAF.

His army records are not on line because all post 1920 are still with the MOD so you should go ahead with the application to MOD.

The Palestine Police were not the responsibility of the (then) War Office so MOD won't know but the letter from the Foreign and Commonwealth Office here https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/368541/FOI_Ref_0908-14_Request_for_Palestine_POlice_records_from_1930s___1940s.pdf
holds out some hope I think.
