Hi I know that my Great Grandmother was born in about 1860 at Fort Beaufort, Cape of Good Hope. Her name was Isabella McGill and her father, Michael McGill, was serving there in the British Army as a private in the 59th Regiment of Foot.I have been trying to trace birth records for Isabella but to date have failed. I think her father was Roman Catholic but I havent found any of those records in S. Africa. It may be that births of foreign nationals werent recorded. if anyone can point me in a direction to search I would be very grateful.

If you search the familysearch catologue you will see there is a film or two for the catholic church in Fort Beaufort. Unfortunatelly they are not digitised as yet. They are intending to digitise all their films over the next couple of years so keep checking back

Your other alternative would be to write to the church and see if they are willing to look it up for you

Thankyou so much for your advice. I certainly will contact the church.
