Title: Ancestry Problem
Post by: Treetotal on Thursday 16 November 17 15:37 GMT (UK)
When searching a person on Ancestry, the right results come up but when I go on to Family Trees...the trees don't match the person that I am looking for. Has anyone else had this problem?

See this thread I posted recently - nothing has changed for me.  Mine seem to be hint problems rather than tree problems though.

Pheno

I am not having any problem with hints.

It is only looking for other peoples online trees.  What I could find yesterday is not working today.

Strange as I've just had this problem when looking for a Curtis born 1897 Nottingham, a suggestion for a tree for a Lester Clyde Cutsinger Moulds born 1910 USA came up.

Same problem for me this morning - just checked again and still the same.   Have duly emailed them about the problem.

No, I certainly wasn't!  ;D  As I said I was searching for a Curtis and when the results came up that came up as a suggestion in the tree bit. I only noticed it because of the strange name. I presume the Ancestry search bit just picked up on the Cu bit of the name. I wonder how many people will see it and "adopt" him into their tree?

I don't think so always prefer to do my own research with the original certificates rather than taking information from other tree's  ::)

It looks like only trees from the US are coming up in the search results.

Yes I think you are right. I've done several general searches tonight and the suggestions at the top have all been trees from the US, none remotely connected to the name or place I put into the search.

It's still happening. I've tested it with names I know should be there and just get nonsense answers.

The surnames do start with the same letter as the one I searched though.

Has any one reported this problem?

Ancestry are on Facebook - if you're a member of Facebook, you may find a reference, or can post a message on there!

It seems to be working okay now - no strange suggestions.

As I posted earlier I did email Ancestry - amazingly, I received 2 replies within just minutes.   Clearly, they were already aware of the problem which they described as 'a glitch with the Public Family Tree search' which they were investigating and hopefully it would be functioning correctly soon'.

However, it is still not working for me.    Just tried a search for my grandfather surname Grist - result of 7 as before, all Grove or Groves!

I am having the same problem, it seemed to start Thursday Afternoon (in am in Australia) . I sent them a message about an hour ago, and got a response.

"Ancestry is having a problem with Public Family Trees today. They are working on it. Unfortunately, I do not have a timeline for when it will be fixed"

I asked     "when they fix it will we receive a credit of extra days on our membership?"

Response   "I understand your frustration. I could escalate your question. However it may be better to give it a little time so you know how long this feature was unavailable.

My Comment "OK I will wait 24 hrs . I will get back to you if it still does not work tomorrow",

Response  "Fair enough"

Time will tell if we get a credit, my guess is ZERO chance.

While "it's working for me" is probably the 2nd most annoying response after no response at all, just ran a search of Grist in Family trees, all collections, got 59000 entries, the first 400 seeming valid (with the exception of the odd "he owned a grist mill") before moving on to Van der Grists.

Ran a search on my Dad's exact name as that's what I use to find my tree when I'm not logged in and it's 2nd in the list

Hopefully that means it's been fixed between our postings (or CassT's)

Up the whop. I have not heard that phrase before. I like it.

Thanks to those who reported the problem.  It seems to have been fixed around the world now.

Below is the question and response I have received from Ancestry concerning the problem I mentioned earlier.  Is anyone else experiencing what I have described?

Question
'navigating between a person's subheadings
Following a hint from the leaf in the top bar takes me to a person and that hint. However if I want to check details and try and switch from hints to either gallery or lifestory or facts these pages are all completely blank. If I go to the same person via the 'find person' tab on the trees page then only the facts page shows any info, there is nothing on either the lifestory, gallery or hints page.

In these last two or three weeks its as if I have lost the ability to see detail when switching between these tabs and I can only actually access the hints or facts tabs through different access routes.

Is there any explanation or solution for this please?

Hi I’m, a Directly Ancestry Expert. I would like to help.

This is an ongoing issue that Ancestry is aware of and they have reported it to the development team to correct it. Unfortunately Ancestry does not have a time frame for when this issue will be resolved.

I apologize for the inconvenience this is causing.

I hope this information helps answer your question.'
