Hi,
I need some help tracing a 'Glaves John Burke'.
According to Southern Cemetery, Manchester, England, records Glaves John Burke was buried on 23rd Oct 1918 in the same grave as Margaret Frances Smith. I'm aware of the Smiths but I've no idea who this Glaves John Burke is. I can't find anything about him; the name may be a typo and even transcribed in to the wrong grave (I've had that before).

Any age given for him?
-
No, sorry; just got his burial date.
I thought it was such an unusual name he'd turn up in searches but no luck so far.

In the Dec qtr 1918 there is only a John G Burke aged 30 - registered Barton on Irwell
Might be best to look at the actual burial record if possible - or is that what you have already seen

Glaves John Burke born about 1888
Died 1918
Soldier

Hi,
Can you give me any pointers to where you found that information? All I've managed to find is a pointer to findagrave.com that sends me back to where I started!

Hi
It's in the England & Scotland, Select Cemetery Registers, 1800-2016 on Ancestry
It's possible the Barton death is the right one as the age matches
per www.lancashirebmd.org.uk - death was registered in the sub district of Stretford but as John G so middle name not shown in full

Hi,
The GRO site has,
John Glover BURKE Dec Q 1918 Barton Upon Irwell 8c 1061
Age: 30

Hi Daisy,
That looks promising, especially given it's GRO as you'd expect it to be accurate.
I'll ask Southern Cemetery to check their transcription that produced 'Glaves John Burke'.
Regards
PS: Still don't know of any association between Burke and the others in the grave!

Was it a public grave
-
There does not have to be a connection between everyone in the plot.
Was Margaret the only other occupant, and when was she buried?
-
Ok, I am not registered, but the occupants are:

heatherjulie,
Yes, that's the family. They had a further son, Ernest, born November 1901 so after the census. I don't know who the Margaret Smith is; another daughter? Sister to William? Smith isn't an easy name to research.
This is not a public grave so I'd be surprised that there is no connection between everyone in the plot; unless it was some sort of financial arrangement to save the Smiths funding a new grave! Burke was the first occupant.
