Title: Martin Augustus LALLY & Thomas Henry LALLY, Boston, Mass, USA
Post by: Tgapitbull on Monday 27 November 17 08:45 GMT (UK)
I am looking for Martin Augustus (aka Augustine) LALLY born 14 August 1884.  His birth was registered in Tewksbury as Martin TAYLOR and again in Boston as Martin Augustus LALLY.  WW1 Draft card dated 12/9/1918 for Div No. 6 Oakland, California indicates that he had a wife Anna.  Address was 1326 E 27th st Oakland, Alemeda, California, age 34 years.  Occupation Painter.  He worked for E R Lehal Co, 525 17th st, Oakland, California.

And
Thomas Henry LALLY born 23 November 1886, Boston, Mass.  The US 1900 census has him at Precinct 2 Boston city, Ward 18, Suffolk, Mass, USA
Their parents are Jane TAYLOR and Martin LALLY.
The following is what I know:
Jane TAYLOR was born c 1846 in New Deer, Scotland to David TAYLOR and Margaret HENDERSON.  According to the 1920 US Census she arrived in the US in 1871 and was naturalised in 1885 (unable to locate these records).
On 31 July 1899 Jane TAYLOR married Martin LALLY, the son of Thomas Lally and Mary Murray, in Boston.  At the time of their marriage Martin was 60 years and a Labourer.  Jane was 53 years and single.  They both lived at 48 Cabot street, Boston.
However the 1900 Boston census records that they had been married 18 years and had 2 children, Martin age 15yrs and Thomas age 13 yrs, both born in Massachusetts.  Martin was a Day Labourer and arrived in the US in 1860.  Martin was not naturalised.
Martin LALLY died on 14 March 1908 age 74 yrs in Boston at Carney Hospital.  At the time of his death he was living at 80 Dudley street, Boston.

Any assistance appreciated.

Per his WW1 draft registration, Thomas was living at 32 Franklin, Grand Haven, Michigan in June 1917, and working as a piano finisher at Story & Clark.

Per his 1942 WW2 draft registration, he was then working at Medfield State Hospital in Dorchester, Massachusetts and living at Knowlton Hall "Conn Colledge", New London, Connecticut.

There's a Social Security claim index entry for him suggesting death circa 1953/4.

That does not mean Thomas died in those years, he could have made a claim for disability or retirement benefits.

There's an obituary for the younger Martin here - https://www.newspapers.com/search/#lnd=1&query=martin+lally+boston+chusetts+undertaking&dr_year=1929-1929&t=2  You can see a good chunk of it with the free search if you click on the arrows.

Do you have a date of death for Jane?  Maybe an obituary for her would shed some light on Thomas and any of his descendants.

RJ137 - a belated thank you for the obit - which is very much appreciated.
This refers to Martin Lally as "brother of Tom (Thomas Henry Lally), Eva and Ann Lally".
I have checked Familysearch and been unable to locate any details for Eva and Ann Lally.  Do they appear in the Boston, Massachusetts 1910 census?
Martin Lally Snr died in 1908.
Their birth date range would be from approx 1886-1908.
I have very limited access to USA records.

Any assistance appreciated.
