Title: Joseph MADDAMS/Louisa KELL North Mimms, Herts
Post by: LornaHen on Wednesday 29 November 17 04:56 GMT (UK)
Love to swap info with anyone researching the family of Joseph MADDAMS born 1819 North Mimms. He married Louisa KELL in 1849, registered Ealing, Middlesex.

In particular at the moment I'm curious to find out what happened to their son Charles Edwin MADDAMS (https://www.familysearch.org/tree/person/details/LZKG-DYJ and https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Maddams-12).
Charles Edwin's birth was reg. Staines, Middlesex, England 1860 Qtr 1, mother's surname KELL.
He seems to go under Edwin (1861 census) and hasn't yet been found in England after 1871.

Is he the Charles E MADDAMS in Essex, Ontario marrying 1889 to Jane Little?
One source shows that Charles' mother as Mary rather than Louise, but agree on Joseph as his father's name.
The Ontario chap is variously C Edward/Chas E/Edward/Ed but I've not found him as Edwin.
Birth date supposedly 15 Nov 1859, England, which does fit with a Qtr 1 birth registration in Middlesex England (Staines, mother KELL).

Love to hear from any descendants of the family but even more so  if you've considered, or have undertaken, DNA testing - FamilyTreeDNA's yDNA for direct male line MADDAMS, or any of the autosomal tests (Ancestry, MyHeritage, FamilyFinder from FTDNA) as long as we can check on GEDMatch.com for matches.

(no relation -  working on a set of DNA matches that might hold a good clue to a mystery

From 1858 to 1862 Charles Edwin Maddams is the only Charles Maddams born in England and Wales, so it looks like the one in Canada is the same man.  Also, he arrived in 1881, so could have avoided the 1881 census in England.

If you are trying to find people working on the same family, then look in 'Surname Interests' under 'Your Tools', below.

Thanks chempat.
Yes, I'm reasonably sure he is, just a little bit worried about the Edwin/Edward discrepancy.

Thanks also for the hint about the Tools, I'd never checked that!

Edwin and Edward are often used for the same person, do a google search, to find such as:

Hello there :)

I was researching and found that Joseph Maddams and Louisa Frederica Kell are also the parents to Frederick Joseph Maddams (who was born 1848 in Norwood England and married Mary Ann Munday, they had a daughter Rose.)  Joseph and Louisa seem to be  my great great great grandparents.

I found that Joseph Maddam's parents are Thomas Maddams (1789-1856) and Esther Newman (1826-1888). Thomas Maddams parents were Thomas and Susannah Maddams.
