Title: John Langdale/Langdall Bapt and Parents?
Post by: Taylor94 on Wednesday 29 November 17 21:21 GMT (UK)
Hi
I'm looking for a bapt and parents for my 4th grt grandfather John Langdale/Langdall.
He marries Bridget Adams 10 Jun 1821 Loughborough, Leicestershire and are both listed of the parish.
In all Census records he is listed born abt 1799-1801 and birthplace as Loughborough, Leicestershire.

I've tried a few variations and cant seem to find a birth or bapt record on FindMyPast/Familysearch/Ancestry unless I've missed it.
I've noticed a Thomas Langdale and a Lydia White were married 16 May 1784 Loughborough so these could possible be his parents and there is a baptism for a Thomas Langdale Dec 1745 Hathern son of John and Elizabeth.
Any help would be appreciated.

The Marriage between Thomas and Lydia White?
Ive seen on FindMyPast:
13 Jun 1784 Loughborough, Leicestershire
Thomas Langdall and Lydia White both of the parish Loughborough.
Married By Banns
Witnesses: Joseph Webster and Robert Prior?

There is also an earlier marriage record for a John Langdale in Loughborough although it doesn't state John as being previously married or a widow on the Marriage to Bridget so not sure if its the same john.
12 Dec 1819 Loughborough, Leicestershire
John Langdale and Elizabeth Moore both of the parish of Loughborough
Married by Banns.

Joseph Webster was a parish clerk - seen on lots of records. Ok just wondered if you had all details.

Lydia Langdale, wife of Thomas, was buried at Loughborough on 17 Nov 1793.

There is an 1801 will for Thomas Langdale, yeoman of Loughborough, in which he mentions Elizabeth Mary Langdale, daughter of his son John, so it seems highly unlikely that Thomas is also the father of 'your' John.

He also mentions a child named Elizabeth Hills(?) born prior to his marriage to his current wife.  Frustratingly his current wife is not named (there is a blank where her name should be!) but he also names a daughter Sophia, and as she was baptised 1786 to Thomas & Lydia, this 2nd marriage must have been after 1793.

There is a baptism in Loughborough in 1800 for Elizabeth d/o Thomas Longdall (farmer) & Elizabeth his wife, so that could be a possibility - although it doesn't help find your John  :-\

Hi
Sorry for the long delay in replying. Ive also asked on the Ancestry boards and it seems John may have been baptised a Non Conformist (Primitive Methodist) as most of his Children with Bridget are baptised as such and apparently not all records are available so there might not be a record for my John.

Its possible John Langdall/Langdale 1799-1801 is the son of Thomas Langdale (A Stockinger) and Ann. They were baptising children in Loughborough around 1802 and had a daughter Jane bapt 1802 and buried 1802 and father listed as Thomas Langdale Jr.
So could Thomas be the son of Thomas Langdale who has the will 1801?

In 1841 there is a Thomas Langdale aged 70 living at Garden Row, Loughborough. Living with a Thomas, Elizabeth and George Langdall. Its interesting to note that my John and Bridget are also living at Garden Row at the same time.

From his death record in 1851 Thomas was 80 years old, putting his birth at c1771, and there is a baptism in Woodhouse on 21 May 1771 of Thomas s/o Thomas & Mary Langdal.

Also at Woodhouse: 06 Apr 1770 John s/o Thomas & Mary Langdal.

And at Hoton: 18 Mar 1769 Elizabeth d/o Thomas & Mary Langdail.

Marriage at Hoton: 16 Apr 1768 Thomas Langdall, Farmer aged 22 & Mary Cooper, by Licence (written as Langdale but signed as Langdall).

There is a burial 23 Mar 1781 at Loughborough, Mary wife of Thomas Langdale.

As the Thomas Langdall/Lydia White marriage was 1784 it looks possible, but would that then mean Thomas Sr had two daughters named Elizabeth - one with Mary and another with the unknown 'wife' (possibly also called Elizabeth)?

Also found the 'unknown' wife:

22 Feb 1797, St Mary, Nottingham
Thomas Langdale of Loughborough & Elizabeth Mills of St Mary, Nottingham.  By Licence
