This is a plea for help from my lovely fellow chatters.
I have hit a brickwall with james Frederick Martyn Hearne Honeyball.
I know all of the family history of his Parents james and Olympia and earlier details .
All I need to know is what happened to him where did he go etc .
I can find nothing for him after his Baptism at Teynham on 13 July 1901.
His sibling brother Lawrence i have documented until his death in 1968.
Please. I only need only info about James FMH Honeyball.
Thanks in advance.

Do you have Olympia's will? Administration is given to James Frederick Martyn Hearne (no mention of Honeyball).

He is going under the name of Hearne in 1932 when he is on a passenger list going to Jamaica. Address given as Teynham.

Same address, so the same man. Again no occupation given. Travelling first class all over the world, including to New Zealand and Australia.

Wow thats amazing . The last I had on him was at School in herne bay with his Brother Lawrence in 1911 where he was listed as Martyn Honeyball. No wonder I couldnt find him . I new you lot would come up trumps. anyone know when and where he died?
-
I can't see an obvious death, but the way he was travelling about it may not have been in the UK. His mother died 1956 and if he was granted administration of her will he must have been alive then.
-
Thank you all for your extensive help. Special thanks to Groom.
There is an involved story behind my request. The 2 brothers James and Lawrence were the last of the Honeyball dynasty.
After Olympia's death in 1956,the family home " Newgardens " at Teynham fell into disrepair and was vandalised while her affairs were being sorted. Apparently took over 10 years to clear Probate. The property being eventually demolished and replaced with modern estate housing .
Rumour,s at the time of her death were of suicide due to being bankrupted by her her youngest son Lawrence (1902-1968)who was a socialite Gambler on the London scene. Other suggestion was that she had been bitten by a snake in her extensive gardens which comprised numerous ponds and lots of brick paved winding paths. Until your help ,as you know I had no knowledge of eldest son James (1901- ????) .I presume he carried on his travels after his Mothers Death.
Once again ,Thanks a Bunch .. :)
I have not had sight of her will .where from and how can I obtain a copy.
-
Looking further,I don't think there was a will. (sorry) It just says Administration (limited) to JFMH.
Someone will correct me if I'm off base.
Maureen
-
Thank you Maureen ,that would probably explain why the affairs took so long to sort.
Next problem is, if no will is it possible to obtain a copy of Probate results.Hopefully to see where any money,s (if any) etc. went and who got the house and land etc.

Yes, that's correct, Maureen. If it just says administration it means that there was no will. Obviously a wealthy family as James travelled everywhere first class and never gave an occupation. I wonder why he travelled under different names though?
Just looked at the probate and that also says "no occupation"

Any idea where the Hearne part of his name came from? I see the Martyn was his mother's maiden name.

Maureen the link works fine.
What can I say .You lot never cease to amaze me.
So James died 1962 before the affairs of his mother were sorted .
I should have said earlier brother Lawrence was involved with inventing radar and radio technology ,before he started gambling all his mothers money away.

What a fascinating thread...
He reliquished the name Honeyball in 1926 in Tasmania http://www.rootschat.com/links/01l4g/
Traffic prosecution in Tasmania in the same year http://www.rootschat.com/links/01l4h/

He seems to be in St Leonards (Sussex) from at least 1949-1952 going by what I can see on the newspapers on FMPast. Letters to the editor?
If anyone's looking- try Hearne Marine Court as Keywords.

It would be good if we could find out why he decided to abandon the name Honeyball wouldn't it?
-
That Name change is puzzling me . 3 years after his Father died. Rumours were that Lawrence was the black sheep .That is possibly borne out ,as James was the one named to deal with Olympia's affairs .
Olympia liked to be called Lady Honeyball (which she wasn't)and had a Chauffeur named Hyson.
She used to drive around in her open top Rolls Royce and dish out pennies to the local children.

Any idea where the Hearne part of his name came from? I see the Martyn was his mother's maiden name.
The name of HEARNE was the maiden name of James's Grand Father. Frederick1812-1895 First wife Sophia they married 1847.She died 1852. Had one son James Frederick 1849-1923 (JFMHH's Father)and one Daughter Louisa Fanny 1850-1916 (She never Married)
Sophia's Father:- James Hearne was a Page to King George IV at Buckingham Palace.
-
I was wondering whether James inherited money from them, so changed his name, but they died before he was born didn't they? He certainly wasn't short of money was he?

There is now a bit more interesting information on the Australia thread
