Title: Dating of photo of Kirkbampton Church, Cumbria
Post by: clearly on Sunday 03 December 17 20:39 GMT (UK)
Can anyone give me an informed opinion as to the date of the photograph of the church and vicar. The reverse side is just plain card with no writing, embossing or printing. I hope that the style of printing and vicar's clothes may yield some clues.

Assuming they were both taken around the same time I would suggest 1880's - possibly 1890's.

Thanks Jim,

This narrows the timescale considerably.

If the card is contemporary with the photograph I would suggest slightly earlier, being Victorian Gothic style. Maybe 1870's.

Thanks for this AJ. I had presumed that photos and card were contemporary but you post may throw a different light on this.
