Title: Missing births and deaths - children who died young - Brew
Post by: ju1 on Thursday 07 December 17 10:43 GMT (UK)
On the 1911 cenusus for Thomas Henry Brew (1877)Ramseyand wife Catherine Robina Brew (nee Kaighin 1974) Ramsey, it states they has 8 children but only 4 living, I am trying to find the 4 that have died by 1911 as we didn't know about these children.
The 4 on the census are -
Thomas henry 1899 Ramsey
Margaret Eleanor 1900 ramsey
Mona (Mara) 1903 Barrow, Lancashire
Andrew 1906 Ramsey

On the 1901 census they live with her father with children Thomas Henry and Margaret Eleanor

There marriage is 1898

I have found one birth for a William Edward Brew to these parents in 1906, this was in barrow, lancashire. Mona was also born in Barrow and they later move there. However William Edward ws baptised in Maughold. I can't find a death for him, he must be one of the 4 dead children they refer to though.
other than William Edward I can't find any others!

Post 1911 they move to Barrow permanently and have another child Catherine in 1914.

can anyone help me find the children and their deaths please.

Have you tried using the new GRO index which now show mothers maiden name to check births
https://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/Login.asp

I see they briefly were in Lancashire

Williams birth was registered June qtr 1905 (Barrow)

By searching deaths on the GRO I found a Herbert Alfred Brew d1904 age 2, I was then able to find a birth for him in Douglas to these parents in 1902 so good result there.

So thats of 2 of children found and one of the deaths!

www.ManxBMD.com is the place to go ;D

William Edward died in 1906, age 1, Ramsey

Other possibilities:
James Brew, died 1907, age 0, Bride
Gertrude Ivy Brew, died 1909, age 0, Lezayre
Robina Brew, died 1913, age 0, Ramsey

There are further infant deaths in Douglas, Arbory & Malew?
But Brew is a common Manx surname!

Thank you for finding the death for William Edward!

I have looked at the corresponding births for the deaths you list above and they are not a match.

Unfortunately, the Parish Registers are not very helpful?

Ramsey wasn't a parish in it's own right back then?
The Chapelry of St Paul's was in the parish of Maughold - it was later called South Ramsey.
The Chapelry of St Olave's was in the parish of Lezayre - it was later called North Ramsey.

In both cases, there are microfiche copies available until 1883 - I think these are what is available on FamilySearch and Ancestry?

Later than that means looking at the actual Registers at the Manx Museum Library.

So, I browsed both St Paul's and St Olaves's.
I found Thomas Henry (1899), William Edward (1906) and Margaret Eleanor (1901) baptisms.
And a burial for William Edward, age 1, in 1906.

Needs a lot more searching, I think?

Nothing significant on the Maughold burial register, or the Lezayre burial register.
Except:

George Thomas Brew, buried 12 August 1903
William Edward Brew, aged 15 months, buried 20 June 1906
Robina Brew, of Bowring Road, age 5 months, buried 24 January 1913

Hi

hanks so much for taking the time to do this, much appreciated.
Does it say how old George Thomas is his burial?

No! That piece of information is missing!

If it's important, I could have another look when I go back to the Museum Library?
