Henry was born in Holborn abt. 1897, son of Fred Edward Frost Pleasance and Agnes Annie (don't know her maiden name). I know virtually nothing about him except that his name appears on the Tostock War Memorial (Suffolk). As far as I can gather he joined the 23rd Bn. Middlesex Regt. and was killed 5th Nov 1918 (a week before the end of WW1).CWGC gives his parent's address as Tostock Green. I haven't got access to a genealogy site at present so finding I difficult to get info about parents, siblings or indeed this man. Any info would be most helpful. I was asked to help research the names on Tostock's memorial as I had done similar for two other neighbouring villages. Many thanks.

Mother's maiden name is GARDINER
Marriages Jun 1896 Stow (Suffolk) Vol 4a p1287
Gardiner Agnes Annie
Pleasance Fred Edward F
Both bits of info can be obtained from free sites - the first the General register Office site, the second from FreeBMD

The GRO Index Search shows Mother's Maiden Names for nearly all births from 1837 to 1916.

FreeBMD.org.uk can be used to search for a marriage?
And FamilySearch.org can be used for censuses and other data.

Thanks to both of you for the very useful info. I had looked at CWGC site and found Henry's birth on Free BMD. Hadn't got any real clues about place of birth of father or mother though. Your info helps very much with that. Wonder why they ended up in a tiny village in Mid Suffolk?
-
Wonder if 1901 or 1911 census has them in Suffolk and is Fred perhaps a village policeman?
-
I think he is Fred Edward Frost Pleasance?
1881 census: https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:Q27D-LDGH

Just noticed that CWGC has him aged 24 at time of death, I wonder if he lied about his age. Would be interesting to find out when he joined up and if the papers, if they survived, showed his date of enlistment.

Fred's parents were William Pleasance and Ellen Rhoda (nee Frost). his parents are with Henry & Mary Ann Frost in 1871, listed as son in law and daughter. Fred is staying with his aunt and uncle in Norton

Thanks Mabel, that's very interesting. There were 3 generations of Pleasances in Norton, all 'Williams' and the last one, in his 90's, sadly passed away last week!
