I am starting to research the family of my Grandad Arthur Pawson who was born in York on 21.11.1874. His parents were a Benjamin and Elizabeth Pawson. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Can you tell us where you already have found him? So we don't spend time looking for what you already have!
I am not immediately spotting him in 1881 census - have you got him? If so can you tell us about the family?
I see you have an exact date of birth - does that mean you have his birth cert? If so, what was Elizabeth's maiden name?
I am not seeing a birth reg for Arthur Pawson in 1874 in York either!

Have you got the actual birth certificate for him, to confirm his Mother's maiden name?

If he is the one born in 1894 rather than 1874, he seems to have settled in Hull and died there in Q4 1968 - but at least one record shows his exact birthdate as 13 Oct 1894, so not tallying with the 21 November birthday mentioned in the opening post ???

The only document I currently have is the marriage certificate which shows he married an Elizabeth Gladys Perry on the 12th July 1920 at St James Church, Hessle Road, Hull. It show Arthur as being age 25 at the time, working as a Labourer and a home address of 9 Acomb Road, York. It shows his father as a Benjamin Pawson (deceased). His wife was listed as living at 81 Hessle Road ,Hull and her father was an Arthur Septamus Perry who was a fish merchant.
Both Arthur and Elizabeth lived in Hull at various addresses through out their lives and had two children Gwen who was born in approximately 1922 ( not sure of the exact date but know she was about ten years older then my father) and Benjamin Perry Pawson (my father) who was born on 16.1.32). Perhaps the Benjamin name came from his grandfather.
Arthur died in October 1968 ( think it was the 8th but have not confirmed this yet) and Elizabeth died on 7.8.85.

Looks like we are following the right family then, as later census shows Arthur at 9 Acomb Road (with married sister Lilly, now Mrs Fearn) and her family, widowed mother Elizabeth and brother Alfred.

In 1939 he gives his dob as 13 October 1894.
