Title: Help Deciphering Street Address from 1890s Passenger Manifest
Post by: bells18 on Friday 22 December 17 17:41 GMT (UK)
Hi,

I would appreciate any help in deciphering a street address from an 1890s passenger manifest.

I believe the boxed region says "brother Mr. Kotlyn, Providence, RI..." and then a street address I can't decipher.

Thank you!

I can't get a definite street name (Garaline??) but the website below has old street directories for Providence which might help.

Worth looking through that, Philip. Yes, looks like it begins with 'G' possibly ends 'land'  :-\

ADDED: Wondering if it's Gladstone?

ANOTHER ADDITION: Have you found any Kotlyns in RI on the 1890, 1900 US census?
I can only find a couple - Simon & Ida Kotlen living in Robinson St in 1920, 1930.

Kroonland 31 January 1908

Groveland Ave.  ???

The first page transcribed the brother as Aron Kotlyn (aged 18 years)  but the surname looks like Kaslyn/Katlyn.

Non of those names show up so far.
