After syncing my family tree on My Heritage to Family Tree Builder I am horrified to find that after syncing I have approximately 2,000 names missing from my tree. I thought the syncing updated both ways - what on earth have I done wrong please?
Is there any way I can restore my tree to how it was before I synced?

In other words, the Family Tree Builder has taken my tree back to an earlier version, before I had painstakenly found records online and added them - it took me hours :(

You are going to hate me for saying this, but didn't you back up before syncing? If it's only synced to FTB isn't the original still on My Heritage?
-
Thanks for replying. I don't hate you, I hate myself for being so stupid not to back up before syncing. No, there is a message on the family tree saying I have "published" a new version.

The tree should have synced automatically to Family Tree Builder every couple of days but I am reading of other people who are having similar problems with FTB version 8.

Don't know if this is any good? But back up before you try anything just in case!

Tried that but it is only showing the family tree with the missing names! I only have myself to blame ....

After the horse -- I know xx but I learnt early on to keep TWO copies and back up - now my back ups - are backed up and so are they.. I dont envy my daughter... who I am leaving all this backing up to????
there must be a way to restore what you have lost .. somehow.
I am going to go away and back up again (just in case )

I just had a thought? had you downloaded a 'ged' file from your original work??

No :'(

At least, with all the new people I added, I had lots of Smart Matches so I can save from other people's trees quite quickly.

Every time you sync the tree that was prior changed on the site, Family Tree Builder creates a backup of your project. The default number of backups to keep is 10.
Thus if your project was changed on the family site online, and those changes were downloaded to Family Tree Builder during the last sync, you can decide to get back to the previous version of your project.
It is possible to undo changes that were made after syncing your tree and downloading changes from the site, by restoring your project from the backup copy in Family Tree Builder.

Thank you.
The backed up version is still only showing 1,023 people whereas there were actually about over 3,000 people!

It says there is a conflict between the version of My Heritage on the family site and the version of the Family Tree Builder. I will have to contact their Help Desk after Christmas. Thanks for everyone's helpful suggestions.

1023 has significance in IT terms. Think binary - 1 2 4 8 16 32 etc. It's the max number that can be stored in 10 bits. Field overflow, definitely a bug.
Thought I'd left all that behind when I retired over ten years ago now. Some things just stick.
Happy Xmas everyone.

Thanks Jane. A site that I visit regularly and have relatives in common with has 22,000 people on it!! I thought 3,000 or 4,000 people wasn't that big a site! Family Tree Builder version 8 apparently has lots of bugs, should have stuck with version 7.
