I have the marriage 1888 of Margaret Leitch in St Francis RC Chapel Glasgow to James Dunn.
Looking for any info on her Father, Dominick Leitch, a shoemaker
Any help appreciated as I'm researching for my cousins.

on the marriage certificate 1888 of Margaret Leitch, Spinster, age 18 it quotes her parents as Dominick Leitch Shoemaker & Mary Lynch.

Worth getting Margaret's birth cert and death cert.
The death cert and the birth cert of brother have her as Margaret Savage.

I'm assuming that is James Dunn and Margaret. On the marriage certificate John Dunn is 19 recorded as a labourer.

Not sure if you want to follow the Dunn line but just in case - something for you to verify - - William Dunn - 12 August 1892 - Old Dalmarnock Road, Bridgeton, Glasgow, Scotland passed away 15 June 1956 - 29 Inga Street, Glasgow, Scotland. Married 1 Jul 1926 - Quetta, Bengal, India to Charlotte Calderhead Beaton born 7 February 1892.
There is a death record which is a possible for Charlotte -

Hi Sandra,
I found another Birth Registration for Margaret Leitch in Glasgow and guess what...... It's the same entry but on a different Page. The other 2 entries are completely different, but Margaret's is the same. It is much clearer and it states that Dominick Leitch and Margaret Savage were married August 7th 1956 Dublin! ???
Still doesn't answer why on Margaret Leitch's marriage to John Dune in 1888.
Parents Dominick Leitch, Shoemaker & Mary Lynch.
This is doing my head in!!

It's not all that rare for wrong names to appear on marriage certs (and death certs). It can be explained by the person being scared at the ceremony or mishearing, etc. It could well be that the Leitch was misheard as Lynch.
I'll have a look at the cert and see if there is any other explanation.

Yes - it's pretty clear that it's Mary Leitch MS Lynch.
I think she gave the wrong name but no proof . Her birth cert gives Margaret Savage and Dominic death cert has Margaret Savage as his wife.
Margaret's death cert might have the correct name but that is too recent so you'd need to order it.

On a death cert I purchased for Christopher (son) -
Margaret was Margaret Leitch - ms Savage - Christopher Leitch - shoemaker ( journeyman ) - - passed away 10 August 1897. Cause of death - phthisis pulmonalis - 3 months - Christopher of 76 Crown Street Glasgow.
Margaret - her mark - mother was present.

I think we've provided enough evidence to say that Margaret's mother was Margaret Savage, unless there was a birth and informal adoption at birth - births and deaths of Dominc's children and Dominic's death cert all state Margaret Savage as his wife.
Ironically, I've found a Mary Lynch marrying and Frederick Leitch in Castle Blayney in 1861

I think i've got in a muddle with tracing the Dunn family as Margaret Dunn age 18 (parents James Dunn, Gas Office Clerk & Margaret Leitch) married in 1908 to Anthony Cusack.
Anthony Cusack & Margaret Dunn were my cousins grandparents.
i shall have to look at the Dunn family again!

I think that it would be worth finding all Dominc's siblings, if possible. Parents (from death cert) were Dominic Leitch and Ann Green..
I used to have subs/memberships to all the Irish sites when I was researching B in Law's line but am a bit rusty now! Maybe put a new request on the Irish boards as there are some really knowledgeable Irish searchers there :)
