This painting is in my living room and I wanted to know who drew this painting . I tried to understand the handwriting but I found it impossible. Can you help me understand what is written in that print because it is not original. Would make my day. Thank you a lot . ::) :D :)

Hi and welcome to Rootschat...Looks at first glance like Master Wall?
Carol
-
Yeah it looks like master wall but when I searched in google about master wall paintings I couldnt fins this painting. :'(
Thanks for writing :D
-
It does look like Master Wall, but that seems an unlikely name for an artist. Can you post the whole image, and some information - where does it come from, how did you find it, etc.

This is the painting. The print actually since it's not original.
I have no information about it. ???
-
It is a little washed away in the left as you can see. :D
Thanks :)

I think it is something like...
Initial. middle name... Wall
j. jordan wall for example... maybe just a guess

My first impression was "Martin Wall", but the harder you look at it the harder it is to decide :-\
-
unusual place to have a signature it usually goes on lower right, have a good look there.
-
Outside box . . . . .
"Wonder Wall"
?
-
What is the known history of the pic?

Outside box . . . . .
"Wonder Wall"

Hi all this is an uneducated guess but i found DENNIS ENDEAN IVALL an artist /teacher ie MASTER ...I reckon he and student may have done the work together ...?? Or the son of IVALL
-
Another uneducated guess . . . .
I wonder if Master Wall (which is what it looks like to me too) could be the company making and selling prints of the original paintings. I don't know about these things but as someone says the signature is not on the usual place for the artist - so maybe for the printmaking company??

Well this is very strange . . . . I tried google image matching - didn't find any,
. . . . . . but this very painting came up on many sites which are apparently Polish in origin and appear to be advertising all sorts of clothing - like shirts and anoraks, underwear etc etc.

Click on the last link on page 2 of the above link, and there are a number of paintings displayed there, including yours.

No idea what this means for your painting.

Marten Wall?
-
Hi for fear of stating the obvious whats on the backside....thanks Craig??
-
I see Madlen Wall... :o
-
Given the possible Polish connection, I wonder could it be Modlin, now known as Nowy Dwór Mazowiecki, in which case the river would be the Narew.
-
What Madlen wall? Where??? :o
-
Thank you a lot dublin! That is very helpful :D :D :D

I think I'd be concentrating on Wiggy's link and only Dublin seems to have picked it up:

It's clearly the same image and I would think it's a title rather than a signature.

well that lead to the artwork being sold on some kind of Polish EBAY page...
leaves me wondering .. ::) ::) ::) ::) ::)

Not really - plenty of painters sign on either the right or left, depending on where it looks best against the background.
-
Nearest that I can find of a low footway over the Narew:

Mike - many artists sign on the back!
Added - this is to give an idea of the scenery around the river Narew

I don't think it is Elliot Marten's work - he had a very distinctive watercolour style, and his signature looked quite different to this.
-
I tend to agree with Mike, the style doesn't seem right for Elliot Marten. But I do like the picture, I have an unsigned miniature in similar style bought from a charity shop. However, I fear the value may not be high. The one on the Polish site seems to be selling at around 15 Euros :-\

A more detailed link to Wiggy's find:
Translated as 'a landscape picture' (used) price - 70 PZL

If you scroll down on this page (already given above): https://www.olx.pl/oferta/obraz-z-pejzazem-CID628-IDlUnzc.html there's a picture showing a label on the back of the one that's for sale in Poland, where they've read the artist's name as Wall.
Wall doesn't really sound like a Polish name to me, although with its Germanic origins it could no doubt occur in any English/Dutch/German speaking country. Also in neighbouring countries - Germany once included regions that have been ceded to France and Poland.
However, where a print is now may tell us very little about where the original was painted, or by whom.

It might be worth an email to the National Museum in Warsaw.
