I have hit a brick wall
Looking for Archabald Stevenson/Stephenson born in Ireland, I cannot find any trace back to his birth, parents, area, passenger list.
He married Elizabeth Pegden, Event Date: 14 Aug 1809 Parish: Woolwich St Mary Magdalene
Borough: Greenwich.
He then married Eleanor Davis, Marriage Date: 21 Oct 1827 Marriage Place: Lee, Kent, England
This is the only census I can find with his family on
1841 Census Street Unity Place Woolwich Dockyard
Parish or township Woolwich Greenwich
Archabold Stevenson Male 55 1786 Ireland Labourer
Eleanor Stevenson Female 35 1806 Kent
Archabold Stevenson Male 20 1821 Kent Labourer
John Stevenson Male 9 1832 Kent
Edmund Stevenson Male 5 1836 Kent
Archive reference HO107
Piece number 493 Book number 3
Folio number 26 Page number 48
He then dies age 67 Death Date: 27 Dec 1848 registered 1849
Death Place: Plumstead, Kent, England hes death date on here would make his birth 1781?
Would love some help to break through this
thank you Julia Stephenson

1851 census has wife Ellenor with new husband Richard Rawlings
HO107 / 1590 f302 p24
You will not find passenger lists between Ireland & England. I wonder if he was in the Army before his first marriage in Greenwich/Woolwich :-\
-
Thank you for replying Rosie
do you think this would be the only way to britain, if no passenger lists?
I did look that up but none of the birth dates fit, even though I am not sure his correct date/year and if I did come across anything I don't no what I would match against? but thank you so much anything to break this.
Take care Julia

There would have been sailings from Ireland to England other than him being in the Army but there are no records of them. I only suggested the army because of the location of his first marriage being near an army barracks
-
Morning Rosie
Thank you, I will keep a look out, have not got army subscription so will keep my eye out.
"Happy New Year" to you and thank you.
Love the spaniel picture!....I grew up with them around me.
Take Care Julia :)

'Northern Ireland' was suggested here but surname variations could be Stephens, Stevens, Steenson, Steen, etc.
Since Ireland was part of U.K. no records were kept, as rosie99 said, of people travelling between Ireland and Scotland, Wales and England.
Have you tried searching newspapers? I've quite a few records of Irish men from Londonderry & Antrim stationed in Kent who appear in their local newspapers announcing marriages, deaths and career details.
-
Thank you for the info
it all helps, I have not got a subscription to check newspapers so will have to leave as a future project
I will note to check on his bio
thank you
-
Northern Ireland? why was that suggested?

-
Thank you
poss both children died early not found deaths or burials for them
not sure about two archibalds?
-
I can only see one Archibald Stevenson with wife Eleanor in the area during that period.
Did son Archibald (born c1822) settle in Canada? if so there are a few more clues there as to Irish origin of family.
-
he married 1851 elizabeth harris
then he on 1851 census
and I have nothing after that?
-
Then I've found more for you :)
Archibald Stevenson (c1821 Plumstead, Kent-aft.1857) m. Elizabeth Jane (c1826 Woolwich, Kent-aft.1857)
1851 census- https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:SGLV-M9K
1857 to US https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:939V-R3QJ-Y?i=353&cc=1849782
? 1861 Canada- https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:MQWX-FND
? 1871 Canada- https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:M47N-GWP
? 1881 Canada- https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:MVFW-NZT
? death Canada https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3Q93-C9YJ-744Z-G?i=186&cc=1307826
a. Ann Elizabeth Stevenson (c1846 Woolwich-aft.1857)
b. Jane Stevenson (c1849 Woolwich-aft.1857)
If this is the right family then 1871 Canadian census says he's Scotch descent which point more to Northern Ireland rather than Dublin (where I found earlier Archibald Stevensons in various newspapers).

Blimey!
Thank you so much...I am so shocked....there was talk about a edmund Stephenson b1881 poss having another family in new zealand as he was a sailor, but this is a shock......did not think they had the money to immigrate ?

Take Care Julia
