Hi,
I am looking for Charles Henry GOODE (or any C H GOODE) on census records to see whether my great Grandmother is in the same household. She was Susannah (Susan) FLETCHER (born in 1854) and I have a watch given to her by a Mrs C H GOODE in 1874, I assume when she left the employment of the GOODE household. The most likely census date would be the 1871 edition.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks

Do we have any idea of a particular area of the country, or even which country, we are talking about :-\ And an indication of Susannah/Susan's birth year would be helpful.

Yes I have now added 1854 as her birth date to the posting. She was born on the Welsh Borders in Montgomeryshire but ended up in London after she married in 1876. I have her after this date and on the 1861 census with her parents and siblings.
Thanks

Could this be her
RG10/2731 f8 p5
Susan Fletcher Servant 16 bn Churchstoke
Living at The Lean, Hyssington, Clun, Shropshire with John A Allen and his wife Mary

Rosie,
Yes it is most probably is her as Churchstoke is correct and 16 years old too. She must have moved on between 1871 and 1874 I think.
Thanks

Is there a C H Goode and family living in the English/Welsh Borders on the 1871 or 1881 census please.
-
Looking at freebmd there is very little evidence of any C H Good/Goodes that would fit anywhere in England/Wales marrying or dying so that they could possibly be tracked back. The census often does not include middle names so would be difficult to eliminate
If the watch was given in 1874 she certainly did not work for her for long if that was the reason for the gift. What does the inscription say.

But she married in Lewisham.
Why does Mrs C H Goode have to be living in the English/Welsh Borders

Here's a Charles H Goode in Islington in 1871.

Thanks for the thoughts. The watch inscription says "Susan Fletcher, from Mrs C.H.Goode, Nov 26th, 1874."
She could well have moved to London between and worked for Mrs Goode in London if indeed that was the reason for the gift. There are no Goode surnames in the family as far as I know and if it was a family/friend gift the inscription would not have been so formal I think.
I am also assuming that the C H are Mrs Goode's husband's initials although they could of course be her own.........

Do you have her birth date - could it have been a 21st birthday present

Nice thought Rosie, but she was only just 20 born 9 July 1854
