Title: Jeffrey Gravesite In Woodstock
Post by: USCRx on Saturday 30 December 17 18:38 GMT (UK)
My ancestor, Francis ('Frank') Jeffrey (1839-1910) passed away in Toronto in Nov. 1910. His wife, Jane (Milne) Jeffrey (1841-1927) passed away in April 1927. The newspaper notice of her passing stated, "JEFFREY - On April 4th, 1927, at the residence of her son-in-law, A.N. Webster, Westmount, Jane Milne, in her 84th year, widow of the late Francis Jeffrey, of Toronto, Ont. Funeral is private. Interment at Woodstock, Ont."
I'm very interested in finding the gravesite of Francis and Jane (I'm assuming it is in the same spot - they were married 49 years). They were both Presbyterian (listed in multiple censuses). I've checked the FindaGrave website for the 4 cemeteries in Woodstock, and there are no Jeffreys listed.
Does anyone have a suggestion, other than going to Woodstock myself (I live in California), about finding this gravesite?
Thanks SO much!

How to create a memorial at Find A Grave.

You could join Find A Grave (free) and create a memorial page for Jane Milne Jeffrey and then request a photograph - its explained here -  How to submit a photo request.  Hope this helps.

Hi,

I had a look for Francis's obituary - hoping it would say the cemetery.  It doesn't :'(

Globe and Mail newspaper, November 12 1910, page 8.    Also in the Toronto Star, November 12 1910 page 17  ... obit says that Francis Jeffrey died at the home of his son-in-law, Mr C.M. Rogers, 360 Markham Street, Toronto, on Friday the 11th of November, 1910.  In his 74th year.  Funeral service at 8:30 pm on November 13.  Interment at Woodstock Ontario, on arrival of the G.T.R. train leaving Toronto at 8am on the 14th.

Jane's obituary is also in the Globe and Mail newspaper on 5 April 1927, page 14... it is a little different from the one you already have, but it doesn't mention the name of the cemetery.

Monday, April 4th at Westmount Quebec, Jane Milne, widow of the late Francis Jeffrey and mother of Mrs C.M. Rogers, 39 Lauder Avenue.  Interment at Woodstock on Wednesday, on arrival of the 10:30 C.N.R. train.

That's great! Can I ask - how were you able to access the obituaries?

The Toronto Star archives are available online through a paid site.

The Toronto Star archives and the Globe and Mail archives can both be accessed for free through many libraries.    :)

Hi,

Brrr....if you plan to come to Southwestern Ontario, it's snowing madly right now, and -10  ;D ;D :P

Find A Grave, Woodstock Presbyterian Cemetery,
Jane "Jennie" Milne Jeffrey, 11 Oct. 1842 - 4 Apr. 1927
https://www.findagrave.com/cemetery/2148059/memorial-search?firstName=&lastName=jeffrey&page=1#sr-186230349

Nothing showing for Francis, but according to TONI (the Ontario Name Index) he is also there.

Hi,

Not sure which obit you have, but there is also one for Jane in the Sentinel Review Woodstock, a snippet here, April 5, 1927.
"Jeffrey, Mrs. Francis, in Westmount, Montreal, late husband, partner in Jeffrey and Smart hardware
store."
